1025tillwhimbrunetteIt’s not often you see a Whimsie with such curly brown hair. Just look at this one! Isn’t she cute? My hair is long enough to take a curl, but I don’t think I could ever get curls as crazy as this! What a unique and wonderful look! And her cheeks—so rosy. What a beautiful Whimsie!

But of course that’s not all there is to talk about. Look how she’s dressed, like a Fairy Princess. At Halloween, Tessie dressed like a Fairy Princess, and while her interpretation was so much fun, this one is also! I love the crinoline skirt, in a color that almost matches her hair. And pink ribbons at her shoulders! How about those tights, with ballerina slippers on her feet? Oh, she is playing the part so well!

And the crowning glory—those magnificent large wings just behind her! They are so big, and look so light, that you almost believe she could fly away after granting your special wish.

I’m guessing this was a Halloween costume (just like Tessie’s) because there are orange leaves and a pumpkin in the corner. That tells me the picture was taken in Autumn, very likely October, just around Halloween. I wonder if this Whimsie went trick-or-treating, and if she did, what kinds of treats did she get? Whimsies don’t eat candy, so I hope if she got any, she gave it to her Person. I’m sure her Person is a Good Person, because someone obviously put a lot of time and effort into putting together this beautiful outfit for this lucky Whimsie. I’m sure this Whimsie realizes how lucky she is to have such a caring and creative Person, and would gladly share her candy, if she got any.

fairyI think every Whimsie has a bit of the Fairy Princess in her, and this picture exemplifies that perfectly. I’m so inspired, I think next Halloween I shall ask Tessie if I can wear her Fairy Princess outfit. I’m sure she’ll be kind enough to share. I just wonder if she’ll want to put on my Pumpkin Suit! Or perhaps by then, we’ll have new costumes for our special dress-up holiday.

In the meantime, I’m going On-Line to look for more pictures of pretty Whimsies like this one, as inspiration not only for Halloween, but also for our everyday lives. We can see and learn so many delightful things when we venture into the Wonderful World of Whimsies!

birdseed3This morning I woke up earlier than anybody else, and stayed in bed a while, listening to the birds chirping outside my window. It suddenly occurred to me that it has been a long time since I’ve heard or seen birds, so I crept to the window and looked outside and sure enough, there were birds busily feeding! Miss Chrissy has left a feeder out for them all Winter, though there haven’t been many visitors. But this morning I saw some cute little gray birds, pecking away at the seed.

Miss Chrissy woke up, and I told her about it, and we talked about how it’s now the later part of February, so we may not have too much more Winter left before Spring starts to push her way in. I told Miss Chrissy how much I miss going outside, and she pointed out that even though it’s still cold out there, especially in the mornings, since her last shopping trip, we now have a big furry jacket, and also her baby shoes, which should go a long way towards protecting cold little Whimsie feet. Suddenly, I was so excited. “Oh, please!” I exclaimed. “Do you think I might take a walk outside, just to look for birds and breath the fresh air?”

Miss Chrissy smiled and said of course, and bundled me up in the furry coat, put the hood up over my head, and helped me tie up my shoes. Then we headed outside together. Yes! It was cold, and I was glad of the furry hood on my jacket (which, by the way, can you see that it has a little kitty kat on the front? and the hood has little kitty kat ears?? How adorable!) But it was not too cold to want to go back inside right away, and so we ventured out further.

birdseed1I wanted to see the birds, so I stopped by the feeder, but of course, if you come near the feeder, the birds fly away. They’re very skittish like that. But I asked Miss Chrissy to take this picture of me, just so I could post it here, to always remember how crisp and wonderful it felt on this Winter morning, when the promise of Spring is hovering around the edges of the day.

Soon, I think, we will have lots and lots of birds at this feeder, and Miss Chrissy will set up food for the hummingbirds as well. Hummings eat very different food than regular birds, since they are very different birds, quite peculiar, yet beautiful. I think, perhaps, they are my favorite kind of bird ever. I sometimes wish I could get one to light on my arm or my shoulder, but realistically, I don’t think that’s ever going to happen.

But anyway! It’s been fun staying indoors and cuddled up under the blankets, watching movies and the Olympics, reading comics and old scrapbooks, but I think perhaps all of us are beginning to long for that time when tiny pink and white and yellow flowers begin to appear on the Girl Trees, and we can put the winter jacket in the bottom drawer, to await another wonderful Winter, which I’m sure we will be fully ready for, when it happens.

hummingHere in Whimsieville, it strikes me that the seasons are just about right. In the Winter, it doesn’t snow so much that it becomes tiresome (or worse yet, dangerous!) and our Summers are not generally so hot for so long that we despair of ever again feeling cool and comfortable. Autumn and Spring have much to recommend them. I do so love the repeating “Circle of Life!”

TESSICON A little while ago I was at the E-Bay Adoption Agency listings and saw this cute little redheaded Whimsie who was looking for a home. I have never before seen a Whimsie with such red hair! Well, actually, I think you would say her hair is orange. Trix and I have pink redhair, which is sort of red, and orange is also sort of red, but our hair is not red in the same way. Still, we are all Whimsies, so in some way you could say we are all sisters. We all have the same freckles on our noses, and with all that red hair, those freckles look just darling on this red-headed Whimsie! Oh! And her saucy bangs are just so cute!

This beautiful Whimsie looks to me like she would would be fun girl to know. I just love her outfit with red and white stripes and blue pants. Are those blue jeans? She looks so patriotic, like she’s ready for a summer picnic, especially with those ribbons in her hair! The ribbons are yellow, which is shocking, since we Whimsies generally believe that nobody looks good in yellow, but yellow ribbons in orange hair seems just about right, don’t you think?

We can only see this Whimsie sitting down, but I have a feeling if she were to stand up, she would be taller than either me, or Trixie or Tillie. She looks taller, and maybe even older. Her feet look really big, too, Maybe it’s just because her feet are the closest thing to the camera, but I bet if she were wearing shoes, she would need a bigger pair of shoes than fits me and Trixie and Tillie.

But shoes would not be appropriate for this Whimsie in this outfit. Even though it is the middle of Winter in Whimsieville, this red-headed Whimsie is dressed like it’s the middle of summer and she is heading out to a picnic where she will roast marshmallows on the fire, play kickball in the street with all her cousins all afternoon, and catch lightning bugs in a jar after dark. Every season has its own particular charms, and red-headed Whimsie looks all ready for the charms of Summer.

faceAs I mentioned, this Whimsie was seen at the E-Bay Adoption Agency a while ago, and then…she was not seen anymore. Which probably means that someone did indeed adopted her. I hope she went to a nice home, full of people who love Whimsies, and love read-heads, and love Summer. Some of the Whimsies we see at the Adoption Agency do not look as pretty and healthy as this one, and I sometimes worry that they will not find iconpup good homes. It makes me sad to think of it. But then it also makes me sad to think of all the kitty kats that never find good homes. And all the puppies.

I think I could work myself up into being totally depressed, if I stopped to think about all this for too long. I am trying to convince Miss Chrissy that at some point we should adopt another Whimsie from the Adoption Agency, so we can feel that we are all doing our part to make the world a better place. I also have hinted to Miss Chrissy that maybe Mr. Squee would like a little kitty kat to hang out with, one of his own kind. Me and Trix and Till have each other, and Miss Chrissy and The Man have each other, but Mr. Squee has no one. Miss Chrissy replies that Mr. Squee seems to be just fine that way. Sometimes he’s….well, not anti-social, he’s just not as social and Whimsies and People usually like to be.

So, we shall see what will happen in the future. New residents of Whimsieville any time soon? Who knows? Right now, we are all quite content in our happy home, and I believe little Miss Red-Head has also probably gone to a good home. But I sure should love to meet her someday, and if we could spend some Summer evening together, catching lightning bugs in a jar, I think that would be the most fun ever.

Miss Chrissy recently made a trip to the Thrift Store Boutique and got us some wonderful new clothes, so it’s time for another Fashion Show! If there’s one thing we Whimsies love, it’s putting on Fashion Shows! So here are a few of the items that have now been added to our Wardrobe.

REDFirst of all, check me out in my snazzy new hat! It’s certainly roomy enough, so I thought I would try tucking my braids inside, and doesn’t it make me look so completely different? In some ways I think I look like one of Santa’s elves in this hat (tee hee…) but at the same time, I also think it’s a very sophisticated look. Sort of French…no? Especially with this very plain but very bright outfit in red and white. The stretch red pants fit perfectly, and will go with so many things—perhaps best of all with this plain white top with long sleeves. Since it is February, and the middle of Winter, we all decided to stick with long-sleeved shirts for this Fashion Show. But as we all know, white can be very chic. And don’t I look tres chic? And besides being extremely fashionable, I’m also incredibly comfortable in this outfit! I could hang out like this all day! (My white and red socks are especially soft and comfy!)

YELLOWNow check out Tillie. She is once again throwing caution to the wind and experimenting with the color YELLOW. Yes, I know we have all agreed that nobody looks good in the color yellow…but tell that to Tillie in her cute little yellow flowered pants! I think the trick with yellow is to keep it away from your face, since it drains the complexion. But as part of a summery flowered design on pants, it’s simply fabulous! And to make sure the whole look doesn’t get too busy, Tillie chooses a simple white long sleeved top. The pants may scream “Summer!” but it is in fact still the middle of Winter. So this outfit is sort of like the HOPE of Spring, which is on the way. And the light violet hat and socks (which were already in our Wardrobe) add a hint of gentle drama.

But here’s the outfit I think I like best of all, as modeled by my friend Tessie. Just look at her! What do you see? Again, the simple white long-sleeved top, but what else? Camouflage pants, very trendy. A nice, new look for us. And by the way, these pants are the softest FLEECE, so soft you could even wear them as jammies. But they’re not jammies, they’re very serious pants. The kind you would wear when you go out SHOESexploring or hunting for dinosaurs. And if you’re going out exploring, it really is best to wear some sturdy yet comfortable shoes. Right?

Yes! We have shoes! Here Tessie is wearing our first pair of real shoes. Though I must tell you the story about these shoes. Miss Chrissy did not find these shoes at the Boutique. She looked and looked, knowing we were hoping for shoes, but there were none to be had. But then she suddenly remembered: in a little box full of trinkets from her childhood, she had a pair of shoes that she used to wear when she was very very little, no bigger than a Whimsie. She kept these shoes all these years, and at one point even hung them as an ornament from the rear view mirror of her very first car (a VW Bug). But for many years, these shoes have sat in the box of trinkets, waiting patiently for the time when they could once again be Of Some Use. Now, she brought them forth, and amazingly, they fit Whimsie feet just fine! A new pair of shoelaces…and we have added our first pair of shoes to our Wardrobe!

It’s just so amazing to me how things keep getting better and better for us all the time. Before you know it, we will be the best-dressed Whimsies in all of Whimsiedom! Now that Miss Chrissy knows our shoe size, and sees how great we look in shoes, she says she’s going to look in other places (not just in the Thrift Store Boutique) to see if she can find us some more shoes.

There are many more items we got from Miss Chrissy’s latest shopping trip, but some of them are Summer dresses, so we will have to wait a while to show you those. But there were a couple of cute jammies! As you know, one can never have too many jammies.

But we’ll have to show you those next time. Right now, I think it’s my turn to try on the shoes!

THREE

I’m so glad Tillie finally got around to commenting in the Wonderful World of Whimsies, because I’ve had something else I’ve wanted to say for a long time, but I didn’t feel right hogging this new category. But now, we’ve each had a chance to say something, so it can be my turn again!

As you can see on the left, I have found a beautiful Whimsie who is all ready to take a dip in the pool. I know it’s the middle of Winter, and in fact we’re in the middle of the Winter Olympics, so swimming in a pool is probably the last thing on anyone’s mind, unless you’re taking a vacation in Florida, but swimming pools are always in the back of my mind, whether I want them to be or not.

As you know, I was once almost drowned in a pool, by my Person’s extremely bad brother. I spent way too much time in that pool, and it was almost the end of me. But I survived. Because I am a Survivor! Only, in the back of my mind, it’s always there, I always remember, and it always makes me feel a little sick and sad when I think about it.

So when I find a picture like this, of a Whimsie who could very well be my long-lost sister, and I see her looking so pretty and healthy in such a cute little purple swimsuit, it really brings up a lot of mixed emotions for me. On the one hand, I want to look away and forget everything about swimming pools and water. But on the other hand, I am completely drawn in and fascinated by this image of a Whimsie (who really does look so much like ME) in a swimsuit, ready to take a dip in the pool, and in some way I am…I don’t know…encouraged? Inspired?

I freely admit I have a fear of water. It’s not without cause, but the fact remains, taking a dip in a pool is the last thing I could see myself ever wanting to do. But I am a survivor…and I would also like to be an OVERCOMER. When I see this picture, while it frightens and repulses me, at the same time it makes me think that yes, I CAN overcome my fears! This is a picture of how I would look if I ever put on a swimsuit and tried to go swimming.

I don’t know if I would ever actually feel comfortable enough to go in a pool, but seeing this picture I at least have to admit that swimsuits can be cute and fun, and maybe I would like to wear one someday (if Miss Chrissy could ever find such a thing at the Thrift Store Boutique.) And when I find myself able to even LOOK at a picture like this, and realize that there are other Whimsies in the world who are willing to wear swimsuits, and willing to go swimming, it makes me think, “Yes! Maybe I could do that too.” Maybe…

Wear a swimsuit, I mean. I’m still not decided on the going swimming part. But the first step is to be able to look at a picture like this and feel inspired to be able to overcome my fears. It’s a big step for me. The same way, when Tillie told Tessie that she would be okay if she read that book Go, Dog, Go, it would be okay, because there would be no actual dogs, and it would be fun and funny.

Tessie read that book about dogs. And not only did she survive the experience, but it also was fun and funny. In the same way, I can look at a picture of a beautiful little Whimsie sister in an adorable little swimsuit, and know that the world is still spinning, and I am still here, and everything is okay.

And even more importantly, it makes me realize that there is always hope for things to get better.
