I’m so glad Tillie finally got around to commenting in the Wonderful World of Whimsies, because I’ve had something else I’ve wanted to say for a long time, but I didn’t feel right hogging this new category. But now, we’ve each had a chance to say something, so it can be my turn again!

As you can see on the left, I have found a beautiful Whimsie who is all ready to take a dip in the pool. I know it’s the middle of Winter, and in fact we’re in the middle of the Winter Olympics, so swimming in a pool is probably the last thing on anyone’s mind, unless you’re taking a vacation in Florida, but swimming pools are always in the back of my mind, whether I want them to be or not.

As you know, I was once almost drowned in a pool, by my Person’s extremely bad brother. I spent way too much time in that pool, and it was almost the end of me. But I survived. Because I am a Survivor! Only, in the back of my mind, it’s always there, I always remember, and it always makes me feel a little sick and sad when I think about it.

So when I find a picture like this, of a Whimsie who could very well be my long-lost sister, and I see her looking so pretty and healthy in such a cute little purple swimsuit, it really brings up a lot of mixed emotions for me. On the one hand, I want to look away and forget everything about swimming pools and water. But on the other hand, I am completely drawn in and fascinated by this image of a Whimsie (who really does look so much like ME) in a swimsuit, ready to take a dip in the pool, and in some way I am…I don’t know…encouraged? Inspired?

I freely admit I have a fear of water. It’s not without cause, but the fact remains, taking a dip in a pool is the last thing I could see myself ever wanting to do. But I am a survivor…and I would also like to be an OVERCOMER. When I see this picture, while it frightens and repulses me, at the same time it makes me think that yes, I CAN overcome my fears! This is a picture of how I would look if I ever put on a swimsuit and tried to go swimming.

I don’t know if I would ever actually feel comfortable enough to go in a pool, but seeing this picture I at least have to admit that swimsuits can be cute and fun, and maybe I would like to wear one someday (if Miss Chrissy could ever find such a thing at the Thrift Store Boutique.) And when I find myself able to even LOOK at a picture like this, and realize that there are other Whimsies in the world who are willing to wear swimsuits, and willing to go swimming, it makes me think, “Yes! Maybe I could do that too.” Maybe…

Wear a swimsuit, I mean. I’m still not decided on the going swimming part. But the first step is to be able to look at a picture like this and feel inspired to be able to overcome my fears. It’s a big step for me. The same way, when Tillie told Tessie that she would be okay if she read that book Go, Dog, Go, it would be okay, because there would be no actual dogs, and it would be fun and funny.

Tessie read that book about dogs. And not only did she survive the experience, but it also was fun and funny. In the same way, I can look at a picture of a beautiful little Whimsie sister in an adorable little swimsuit, and know that the world is still spinning, and I am still here, and everything is okay.

And even more importantly, it makes me realize that there is always hope for things to get better.

tillieavatar2Trixie’s been bugging me to say a few words in our new category, Wonderful World of Whimsies. It’s not that I haven’t wanted to, it’s just that I’ve been so busy watching the Olympics! And also sitting by the window, watching the weather, because the weatherman keeps saying “snow,” but then it never actually happens. So I think I’ve decided not to hang on every word the weatherman says. whimpair - CopyBut anyway, as soon as I decided to take a short break from the Olympics, I found this darling photograph of two BFF Whimsies and just had to say something about them!

First of all…adorable. Right? They both look so happy…and so stylish! I love the blue outfit, it looks casual, comfortable and fun. And the girl in pink is actually wearing the dress that Tessie was stuck in for years and years, but I’ve seen Tessie’s dress in the bottom of the dresser drawer, and it doesn’t look anywhere near as bright and pretty as this one! It’s hard to believe a dress this beautiful could have been kept this nice for over fifty years! Perhaps it was stored in a vacuum-packed bag, and taken out especially for this photo- shoot? That wouldn’t surprise me. I think if Tessie’s dress looked THIS pretty, she would be more inclined to dig it out of the drawer and put it back on.

But after noting all this—and by the way, also noting the wonderful addition of SHOES and SOCKS to these pretty outfits—two things really, really stand out to me. You know how there’s this saying about “the elephant in the room,” when there’s something that’s so obvious but nobody wants to talk about it? Well, I’m going to talk about the “elephant” in this picture, which is not an elephant at all, but a CHICKEN!! And a dead, plucked chicken at that! I mean…for goodness sake, what is THAT all about? Pink Whimsie is wearing the dead plucked chicken around her neck like it’s some magnificent strand of jewels!

batgothWhat is the thinking here? Is this some new fashion trend of which Trixie, Tessie and I are completely unaware? Is it like, maybe, when Goth Girls wear black lipstick and skull earrings? Is Pink Whimsie trying to SHOCK us with the unexpected? Is she trying to say, “So! Think I’m so cute and adorable, do you? But look, I also have a crude, rude side, so don’t think you can figure me out! I’m going to surprise you at every turn!”

With Goth Girls, it’s not really surprising when they wear dog collars, or skull earring, or Frankenstein boots. You expect all that. What would be surprising is if they put some pretty pink ribbons in their hair. I sure would love to see that sometime.

But as for Pink Whimsie here, the dead chicken is a mystery to me.

Now, one other thing I must mention about these two charming Whimsies, and that’s the lovely little pair of spectacles on Blue Whimsie. How cute! It almost makes me wish I didn’t have perfect eyesight, so I too could wear spectacles. But even as I say this, I have to wonder…if Blue’s friend is wearing a dead chicken around her neck as some strange fashion statement, perhaps Blue doesn’t actually need spectacles, and is merely wearing them as her own personal fashion statement.

As everyone knows, Tess and Trix and I love to wear hats! We are well-documented hat-wearers. That is OUR fashion statement. But looking at these two Whimsies, I’m getting some new ideas for fashion statements. No, not dead chickens! But I wonder what we would look like in some fashionable spectacles. My imagination is activated with the very thought of spectacles! I think I will have to ask Miss Chrissy if there is any way we can get our hands on some spectacles, so we can see if we might want to make them part of our distinctive Whimsical look!

Now I’m sorry that it took me so long to get around to commenting in our new category about other Whimsies. I can see this is going to be an activity full of fun and new ideas. Can’t wait to see what wonderful and whimsical sights we might see next, as we continue to journey through the Wonderful World of Whimsies!

tillieavatar2In honor of the beginning of these Winter Olympics, I thought I’d tell you a little bit about one of my Favorite Boyfriends, and why I think he is such a winner. It’s Michael Phelps, and I think he’s a winner because…well, because he is! He’s the biggest winner of the most medals at any Olympics EVER. I found him at the Summer Olympics a while back, and have followed his career with great interest, and he’s only gotten better and better.

medalWhen we all lived in The Hoard, no matter what else you could say about The Hoarder, she sure did love the Olympics, both Winter and Summer, and whenever they were on, she did not shut the TV off for weeks on end! She stayed up all night watching the Olympics, no matter what sport it was. She saw herself as a big supporter of Team USA, and had lots and lots of red, white and blue stuff in The Hoard, lots of flags and patriotic plates and cups, stuff like that. And the Olympics really set her heart on fire!

So, from my perch on top of our precarious mountain in The Hoard, I watched the Olympics with her, while Trixie was out and about seeking new comics to read, and Tessie socialized with a very friendly Barbie doll who lived on the next mountain. But I liked to stay put where I was and watch the Olympics, mostly because I was so fascinated by the incredible story of Michael Phelps!

mpgoggleOf course as we all know, he excels at swimming, and began swimming at a very early age. As a boy, he found out he has ADHD, which are a bunch of initials for a condition meaning he has trouble concentrating, and is sometimes hyperactive. So, to focus, he put all his energy into swimming, and got really really good at it. So good, that he started winning all kinds of medals, right up to the Olympics. And you can’t win any better medals than that!

I like the way he had a problem and found ways to deal with that problem and turn it into something positive. I like that when there were people who doubted he could do it, he used those negative comments as motivation to get better and better. He never let anything stand in the way of his goal. That’s all extremely admirable.

And there’s something else that’s admirable about him. Now that he’s won all those medals, and retired from swimming, he has a ton of money, and he uses some of it to help other people, especially little kids. How can you not love a guy that helps little kids?

kidsBut wait, there’s more! I haven’t even gotten around to how cute he is! He’s very tall, and somewhat skinny, and has beautiful brown eyes. Sometimes he can look sort of gangly and goofy, but then other times, he’s very handsome. attends the 2013 Laureus World Sports Awards at the Theatro Municipal Do Rio de Janeiro on March 11, 2013 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Here’s his latest look, with the slicked back hair and glasses. I don’t know what that’s all about. Maybe he’s trying to be what Miss Chrissy calls a “hipster”?

Well, we might not get to see too much from Michael Phelps any more, at least not at the Olympics, because he has retired from swimming. Of course, you can still see him on TV commercials, for Subway and a bunch of other stuff, like Head & Shoulders shampoo. He’s made millions and millions of dollars and doesn’t need to work anymore, but he still likes to play golf, and I think sometimes he appears on TV shows.

I just hope that whatever he does next, he’ll always keep that commitment to do things to the very best of his ability. Take life by the horns and don’t let go! Be all you can be! I like that in a Boyfriend. In fact, I like that in anyone.

talkThe Whims were all aflutter with mixed emotions at the end of this week’s Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD episode. Immediately after watching the show, they sat down together to talk about it, and this is how it went:

TESSIE. So! This week’s episode was very very good, don’t you think? And yet, at the same time, very very bad.

TILLIE. I know it sounds weird, but I agree! Highs and lows, all over the place!

TRIXIE. So what was good—?

TESSIE. Well, first of all, it was funny! I mean, it was really, really funny at the beginning, when they were on the train, and they all got paired up and were pretending to be different people. Some of the things they said—

TILLIE. I know! And didn’t Agent Coulson and Simmons look funny in those glasses?13glasses

TESSIE. Funny? I think they both looked adorable!

TRIXIE. And how about Skye and Fitz, pretending to be on like…their honeymoon or something?

TILLIE. Didn’t he say something like…”You’re the least supportive pretend girlfriend I ever had”?

TESSIE. (giggling) Yes! What a riot! But what was even funnier, was hearing him talk in an American accent!

TILLIE. Actually, he was very good at that. Well, a lot better than Skye was at doing the British accent.13fitzskye

TESSIE. Scottish. And don’t talk about Skye. It’s too upsetting.

TILLIE. I know! You mean because she was shot?

TRIXIE. Yes! She was shot! And not just a little shot. Big time, oozing blood all over the floor shot!

TESSIE. (worried) Do you think she’s going to make it? Do you think she’s going to live?

(The three Whimsies sit quietly for a moment, thinking, then…)

TILLIE. I think she will. I mean, if they were going to kill her, they would have killed her already, right?

TRIXIE. And besides that, she’s an 0-8-4. We don’t know what that is exactly, but we know she’s something special.

TESSIE. Maybe she has the ability to heal herself?

TRIXIE. We can hope. Or at least we can hope that somebody somewhere in SHIELD knows what they can do to save her. I mean, they brought Coulson back from the dead, right? You’d think someone somewhere could do something to help Skye.

TILLIE. I admit, she’s never been my favorite character, but still, I don’t want anything bad to happen to her. And like Trixie said, she’s an 0-8-4. They wouldn’t have introduced that whole idea if they just meant to kill her off. We need to find out what that MEANS.

TESSIE. I think we’re going to find out. And hopefully really soon.

TRIXIE. Well, it won’t be too soon, girls. I snuck on the computer right before we sat down, and I saw that the next episode isn’t going to be for another month!

TILLIE & TESSIE. (together, exasperated) WHAT??

TRIXIE. Yeah. Same as they’ve done before. We’re gonna have to WAIT! A long time!

TILLIE & TESSIE. (together, exasperated) WHAAAAA!!

TRIXIE. Yeah. Too bad…

TILLIE. (suddenly) But wait! Silver lining, girls! I just remembered: the Olympics are starting soon. For a couple of weeks, it’s going to be all Olympics, all the time. So it’s not like there will be nothing to watch on TV. 13figure

TESSIE. (eyes gleaming) Oh! I love the Olympics! I love the figure skating!13ski

TRIXIE. I like the skiing, when they do that big jump. It’s kind of scary, but it also looks fun.

TILLIE. I like the Summer Olympics better.

TRIXIE. (shuddering) Ugh! Not me! Entirely too much water!

TILLIE. Well, snow is water. Only it’s frozen.

TRIXIE. Right. So it’s entirely different. See?

TESSIE. Hey! Hey! We’re getting off track here! What about the show? What were we talking about? Why was it good? Why was it bad?

TILLIE. Well, honestly…I think the only bad thing was Skye getting shot. And there’s nothing we can do about that except wait and see how it all turns out.

TRIXIE. But lots and lots of good stuff happened! Like how about May? When she beat up all those bad guys? And then threw a knife in the leader’s back?

TESSIE. Trixie! Really! Sometimes you seem to delight in the most horrific things!

TRIXIE. Well, they were bad guys, right? They needed to be killed!

TESSIE. Yes! But it was so…bloody!!

TILLIE. Don’t mind her, Tess. You know how she is. She’s been reading all those comic books for years and years, so she’s used to seeing the villains get killed in all kinds of horrific ways.

TRIXIE. I guess I am. But you know, it’s a lot more…what do you call it…? GRAPHIC when they do it in TV and movies.

TESSIE. And that’s a GOOD thing?

TRIXIE. Well, it is when the bad guys need to be killed!

TESSIE. Yes! But…but—

TRIXIE. (rolling her eyes) Really, Tess! Stop being such a girly girl!!

TILLIE. (breaking it up) Okay, okay! Enough already, you guys. But speaking of comic books, there’s something else I wanted to ask you, Trix. The whole time we were looking at Mike Peterson, that poor dad who got his leg blown off, you kept saying ‘deadlock, deadlock.’ And then at the end, when he had that machine leg, the camera zoomed in and we saw those words!

TRIXIE. Well, sort of. Not exactly. It’s DEATHLOK.

TILLIE. Okay. Close enough. But what does it mean?deathlok

TRIXIE. (excited) He’s Deathlok! At least, it looks like he WILL be. He’s a character from the comics! He’s a cyborg!

TESSIE. Huh?? Do you even know what that means??

TRIXIE. Half man, half machine.

TILLIE. Yes, but is he good? Or is he evil?

TRIXIE. Well, in the comics, he’s….no, wait. I’m not going to tell you!

TESSIE. Why not?

TRIXIE. Because, well, for one thing, it’s not that simple, know what I mean? Maybe there’s someone who’s good some of the time, but other times they’re evil. Or maybe they do the right things, but for the wrong reasons. Or the wrong things, for the right reasons.

TILLIE. So which is it?

TRIXIE. (gloating) I’m not going to tell you!

TESSIE. Trixie! For Heaven’s sake—!

TILLIE. No, no. She’s right. She shouldn’t tell us. We should find out for ourselves. And besides, just because this Deadlock—

TRIXIE. —Deathlok—

TILLIE. —Just because this Deathlok is one way in the comic books, doesn’t automatically mean he’s going to be the same way on the show.

TRIXIE. That’s right! With comics, you never know!

TESSIE. Okay. I get your point. And with this show, you never know, either, do you?

TILLIE. (nodding) Always surprising.

TRIXIE. But that’s good….right?

TILLIE. Yes! It’s awesome!

TESSIE. I agree! It’s awesome! It’s just so aggravating that we have to wait so long to find out what happens next.

TRIXIE. Yes, but while we’re waiting, we can watch the Olympics!

TESSIE. Oh! Okay! Good! And you’ll watch too, won’t you, Till?

TILLIE. Of course! I didn’t say I hated the Winter Olympics. I just said I preferred the Summer. But I like the Winter Olympics just fine. Mostly, I like to watch the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. I like all the music and pageantry best of all.

TRIXIE. Yeah, that is pretty cool. Lots and lots of people.

TESSIE. (sadly) But no Whimsies….

TILLIE. I wouldn’t advise it, Tess. So many people, and they’re all so big, and some of those athletes are really, really big. We’d probably get stepped on.

TRIXIE. Well…that wouldn’t be fun.

TESSIE. No, it wouldn’t…

torchAfter this, the girls talked about the Olympics, and what jammies they were going to wear to the Opening Ceremony—well, not TO the Opening Ceremony, because they’re not going, because they don’t want to get stepped on, but what they planned to wear while watching it on TV, cuddled up under blankets on the couch.

I almost felt the Whims might miss SHIELD during this next month, but knowing the Whims, I’m sure they’ll find plenty and plenty of other interests to keep themselves busy until they can see it again.

fashion

Well, here we are, in some new outfits! It’s been so cold lately, we’ve been spending most of our time in jammies, snuggled up under blankets, but today it got a little warmer, so we decided to check out some of the new clothes Miss Chrissy’s been buying for us. We had a lot of fun sorting through our extensive wardrobe, and put some of our new items together with other existing items, and added some nifty socks. Don’t we all look darling??

longtrixTrixie is workin’ her “Pretty in Pink” vibe, as usual, since pink is her favorite color. Notice her socks, though, with the fluffy pink pom-poms! They’re sort of a cross between socks and slippers. It might be warmer today, but it’s raining, so we have no intentions of going outside, so wearing slippers is entirely appropriate.

longtessI’m in the middle, in blue jeans and a simple long-sleeved white shirt. But what really makes this outfit is the HAT! It’s a blue beret, with a giant sunflower on the top! And also, I added some blue and green striped socks fro our existing wardrobe. Do I look international, or what?

longtillTillie sure knows how to work that striped gray beanie! And after seeing Trixie’s recent post about the pretty Whimsie in pink and black, she decided to imitate the look. Her pink top has little black flowers, and her pants are gray. Her socks are pink as well, and she’s wearing a pink jacket, with a hood.

She would put up the hood if she decided to go out in the rain, but as I said, we have no intentions of going out in the rain! Why should we, when it’s perfectly comfortable right here, right where we are?

We feel good, and now we LOOK good as well. What more could we ask?
