hatsnov1Well, it’s that time again! The Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD episodes have been coming one right after the other, and the action is really heating up. Or is it? The Whimsies may not think so, as I learned when I listened in on this conversation…

TESSIE. Can you believe it? This season is almost over!

TRIXIE. I know! And I can’t believe with so little time left till the end, they wasted so much time on that cellist story!

TILLIE. Why? You didn’t like the cellist?

TRIXIE. Oh, I like her all right. I mean, it’s Amy Acker, right?1fred

TESSIE. We love Amy Acker! We love Fred!

TILLIE. Yes, we do. She’s great! And she was a great choice for Coulson’s girlfriend. And it was a nice story, don’t you think?

TRIXIE. It was a nice story, a lovely story, a beautiful story. A story I would love to hear some time…but not right now! We’re in the middle of some really intense stuff here! We don’t have TIME to stop and have a tender love story right now!!

TILLIE. Well…when you put it that way, I see what you mean.

TESSIE. It did kind of slow everything down. And when they kept switching back and forth between what was happening with the cellist, and what was happening with Skye and Ward, I got kind of annoyed. It was hard to keep track, and who cares about the cellist, anyway?

TILLIE. Even though she IS Amy Acker…

TESSIE. But I was more concerned to find out what was going to happen to Skye!

TRIXIE. And what did happen? Nothing yet! We don’t know anything yet!!

TILLIE. Yeah, that’s frustrating.

TESSIE. I want to make sure Skye is going to be okay. And we still don’t know that.

TRIXIE. And we can’t TRUST Joss Whedon, so maybe she WON’T be okay.

TILLIE. (certainly) Oh no…she’ll be okay. I would bet on it.

TESSIE. Why do you say that?

TILLIE. Because did you hear what she said her given name was? The people who got her at the orphanage called her “Mary Sue.”

TRIXIE. So?1skye

TILLIE. So, don’t you ever read FanFiction? Don’t you know what a Mary Sue is?

TESSIE. No. Are you gonna tell us?

TILLIE. A Mary Sue is when a fanfiction writer puts themselves into the story they’re writing. There’s a lot of bad, mean stuff you can say about a Mary Sue, but one thing is sure, the Mary Sue is the readers’ main point of identification in the story.

TRIXIE. Oh! So, I see what you’re saying. If Skye is “Mary Sue,” then she’s the one we identify with.

TILLIE. Well, don’t we? I mean, we aren’t super-smart with computers like she is, but—

TRIXIE. Hey! Speak for yourself!

TILLIE. —but we came in from the outside, just like Skye. We didn’t know anything about the inner workings of SHIELD, and we’ve learned right along with her. If Joss Whedon kills off Skye, then it’s like he’s killing the audience. And that wouldn’t be a very wise thing to do.

TESSIE. NO, it wouldn’t. But you know what? I wouldn’t put it past him!

TRIXIE. Yeah! I don’t trust him!

TESSIE. I don’t trust him either!

TILLIE. I don’t trust him much either, but I just don’t think he’s going to kill Skye. I mean, if he had wanted to do that, he could have done it when she was shot in the stomach. But he didn’t.

TRIXIE. That’s right! We’re building her up as an 0-8-4! He wouldn’t go through all the trouble to create all this mystery about her being an 0-8-4, and then kill her. It wouldn’t make sense.

TILLIE. Agreed! So we think Skye will be okay. But we’ll have to wait until next week to find out for sure.

TESSIE. Or the week after THAT…

TRIXIE. OR…Joss Whedon could leave us hanging until the next season starts!! AAaargh!!

TILLIE. Now, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. One episode at a time, girls.

TESSIE. Yeah! So what else did you like about this episode?

TRIXIE. I liked the nod to Bruce Banner. Oh yeah, Bruce Banner made this thing we’re gonna use, and it has gamma rays. And Coulson says “Oh well then, we should be just fine.” Or something like that.

TESSIE. (giggling) That was pretty funny!

TILLIE. Yeah! But you know what was not funny? May leaving!

TRIXIE. Yeah! What was all that about? Is she deserting them?

TILLIE. I don’t think she’s deserting them, exactly. But she’s got some other kind of plan going on. Something else she needs to do. We don’t know yet…

TESSIE. We don’t. But wasn’t her mother so cute?

TRIXIE. Yeah! Exactly like you would expect May’s mother to be! But what “agency” is she from?

TILLIE. If she IS from an agency. Maybe she just said that, meaning because she’s NOT from an agency.1mariahill

TRIXIE. Well, no matter. It looks like May is after someone named Maria, and I’m going to bet it’s Maria Hill.

TESSIE. Because we see her in the coming attractions! But at least we know May doesn’t want to KILL her!

TRIXIE. At least that! 1rdjr

TILLIE. And remember what Miss Chrissy said? At the end of the Captain America movie, it looks like Maria Hill is going to work for Stark Industries.

TRXIE. Yeah! So that means maybe we could have an appearance by Tony Stark before this season is over!

TESSIE. The Man said he read an interview with the actress who plays Skye, and she said she was getting all fan-girl giggly and mushy when some special guest star shows up!

TILLIE. And you assume that means Robert Downey Jr. will make an appearance as Tony Stark?

TESSIE. Well, that’s a good guess, isn’t it?

TRIXIE. An excellent guess! Though, she could also be getting all fan-girl giggly and mushy for Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner!

TESSIE. Oh!! You would like that, wouldn’t you, Trix?

TRIXIE. Of course! Who wouldn’t?

TESSIE. I’m hoping for Robert Downey Jr.

TILLIE. What? You have a crush on Iron Man? But I thought you liked Fitz!

TESSIE. I do! Of course I do! But I can have more than one boyfriend at a time, can’t I?

TRIXIE. And speaking of Fitz, what did you think of his answer when he was on the lie detector? About what would be in the box if he was on a deserted island?1fitzsimmons

TESSIE. He said Simmons. No hesitation.

TRIXIE. So I guess….maybe not so much like brother and sister?

TESSIE. Maybe not, after all….

TILLIE. Another story that has to play out.

TESSIE. I liked when he said that Trip was ‘insufferable.’ That was funny! Because Trip is not insufferable at all! He’s very much a good guy. At least, as far as we can tell.

TRIXIE. Yeah! Trip is cool! His grandfather was a Howling Commando! How cool is that? I like him. And I think Fitz is just about the only person that doesn’t. Well, Agent Coulson may not trust him yet completely, but Fitz is way out of line.

TESSIE. Cos he likes Simmons. I have to admit.

TILLIE. What’s not to like? She’s so cute!

TESSIE. She’s adorable! I love her accent!

TRIXIE. Oh, you love anybody with a British accent…

TESSIE. I do! Is there anything wrong with that?1fogg

TRIXIE. Nothing! Nothing at all! I just wonder how many times you’re going to watch that movie Around the World in 80 Days, just to keep listening to Philliest Frog!

TESSIE. Philias FOGG!

TRIXIE. Frog, Fogg, whatever…. There ARE other movies in the world, you know…

TESSIE. Yes! But not many that are THIS entertaining.

TRIXIE. Oh really? You don’t say! Well, what about—

TILLIE. Hey girls! Girls! Let’s save this discussion for another time. We’re supposed to be talking about SHIELD!

TESSIE. Well, I have only one more thing to say about SHIELD. I don’t think it was fair that Ward was able to trick the super-duper lie detector machine.

TESSIE. Now there’s one thing we can agree upon! That was such a cheat!

TILLIE. Agreed! I felt really bad that the Lanyard Agent got murdered by Ward, but you know what? He kind of had it coming. If he would have taken his lie detector machine seriously, maybe Ward would be in prison now and he would still be alive.

TESSIE. It’s terrible…a terrible thing…I liked the Lanyard Agent…

TILLIE. Okay, okay! Let’s not get all maudlin about him! Yeah, he was a great character, we liked him, he was funny, and I think Joss Whedon made a big mistake killing off such a likeable character before we really got to know him too much, but I guess if Whedon’s got to kill somebody, better him than one of the agents we’ve been following all season.

TESSIE. I don’t want to talk about it anymore! It’s too upsetting!

TILLIE. Okay, what shall we talk about instead?

TESSIE. Something happy! Can I ask you two a question?

TRXIE. Sure! Fire away!

TESSIE. Well, thinking about that question everybody was asked on the lie detector, what’s in the box that floats up on your deserted island…silver

TRIXIE. No problem there! The complete collection of Marvel Masterworks of the Silver Age of Marvel Comics!

TESSIE. You mean those books The Man has on the shelves? That’s got to be a pretty big box that’s floating up on your island there!

TILLIE. What about you, Tess? What do you want on your island?1tim

TESSIE. Well, I’ve thought about this a bit, and I’ve decided…a ukulele!

TRIXIE. A ukulele?

TILLIE. But, Tess! You don’t play!

TESSIE. Exactly! So this would be a perfect opportunity for me to learn!

TRIXIE. I stayed in a Hoard once where the Hoarded liked to listen to Tiny Tim all the time! I think I’ve had just about all of the ukulele I can stand!

TESSIE. I always wanted to learn to play an instrument, and ukulele doesn’t look too hard. And besides, it doesn’t make much sense to play the ukulele unless you’re also singing along.

TRIXIE. Now THAT makes sense, Tess! Because you have a lovely singing voice!

TESSIE. Why…thank you, Trixie! That’s very kind of you to say!

TRIXIE. And what about you, Till? What do you want to float up on your island?

TILLIE. Well, I want some books too, but they don’t take up nearly as much room as your set of books, Trix. I would want the complete Bloody Jack series.

TESSIE. Those books about the girl who pretends to be a boy, and joins the British Navy, and then becomes a pirate, and goes to school in Boston, and then all these other crazy things happen to her?

TILLIE. Yes! Those books!1jacky

TESSIE. I loved the first one! I only ever read the first one.

TILLIE. I’m on the fourth one right now, and they just keep getting better and better! The girl in those books is so resourceful! She got stranded on a deserted island, and she made the best of it! She’s plucky. I bet I could learn a lot about how to survive, on an island, or anywhere, just by paying attention to her methods.

TRIXIE. Good choice, Till! I’ll have to try reading those books too!

TESSIE. Yeah. Almost makes me wish we COULD be stranded on a desert island…

TILLIE. Well then, but remember…no TV, no Agents of SHIELD

TRIXIE. And no Philliest Frog!

TESSIE. FOGG!!

After this, the Whimsies were very distracted and SHIELD was all but forgotten. But not to worry. There’s another episode next week, and they’ll be back to talk about that when it happens. I just wonder who’s going to get their wish. Mark Ruffalo…or Robert Downey Jr.? Or maybe someone completely new and unexpected?? Stay tuned!

TESSICONsnoozeI’ve noticed a disturbing trend among some Whimsies, which has bothered me for a while, and at last I feel compelled to say something about it. Most of the time, most Whimsies keep their eyes open when they have their picture taken. But every now and then, I see a Whimsie who insists on closing her eyes when her picture is taken.

Why? Why? I don’t understand this. We Whimsies have such big beautiful eyes, why wouldn’t we want to show them off? What good can possibly come from keeping our eyes closed? With closed eyes, you just look like you’re sleeping. And who wants to sleep, when there are so many beautiful things to see in the world?

Now, I admit, I sleep every night, and when I’m sleeping I close my eyes. But that’s probably the only time! (Well…that, and if I happen to be watching a movie or show and a dog or wolf unexpectedly shows up…) But I certainly wouldn’t close my eyes if I knew someone was taking my picture! I would no sooner close my eyes than frown.
PINK
And that, at least, is one good thing you can say about these Whimsies with the closed eyes— at least they keep smiling. But it makes you wonder…Maybe they are asleep? Maybe they’re having a pleasant dream?

These are my thoughts about closed-eye Whimsies. A mystery to me. But wait! The plot thickens!

I told Trixie and Tillie that I was planning to write about this, and they both said they have also seen the close-eyed Whimsies. But while Tillie is just as baffled as me, Trixie had some insight to lend which makes the whole issue….well…really disturbing.

As you know, Trixie has been in more Hoards than Tillie and me, so she’s had plenty of opportunity to meet a lot more Whimsies than either of us ever have. And Trixie tells us that she’s known some of these close-eyed Whimsies and…and I actually have it all wrong! These Whimsies don’t close their eyes simply when their picture is being taken! Oh, no! These Whimsies walk around ALL THE TIME with their eyes closed!

What??

Now I really don’t understand.

I asked Trixie what these Whimsies are like, and she said they are fine, friendly Whimsies, just like the rest of us, but it’s a bit uncomfortable talking to them, because you can never make eye contact. BLUE2BIGGERSo sometimes you don’t know if they’re really listening to you. But then they’ll answer you, most pleasantly, and you realize everything is fine.

So I asked Trixie if she ever asked one of them why she keeps her eyes closed all the time, and Trixie said yes, once she did. She asked one Whimsie. And what was the answer? Nothing really concrete. The close-eyed Whimsie just giggled and said, “Oh, that’s just the way I am.”

Very disconcerting. And unsatisfactory…

So many questions spinning in my head! Can they see? Do they sleep? Why do they do it? And most disturbing of all, but you really have to wonder…do they have eyes at all??

REDI don’t know.

Well, anyway, these are my thoughts about the close-eyed Whimsies. Some of them are very pretty—like this one here in red and white, doesn’t she look French somehow? And how about this one all bundled up in blue, with that curly hair escaping from her hood? How adorable!

But I think they would all be so much prettier, and so much more adorable if they would just OPEN THEIR EYES!!

Don’t you think so too?

Today we had such nice weather, we were all ready for a “fashion shoot” in such favorable conditions. Miss Chrissy had just updated the outside table with a pretty new green tablecloth, and covered the chairs in matching vinyl, so this seemed like the perfect location for our shoot. I thought it might be nice for all of us to dress in green, to honor the new tablecloth and chairs, as well as the green green grass which Miss Chrissy and The Man have just cut back to a very respectable and attractive height, but then I realized that all that green might just be too much green. So I looked up into the clear blue sky and took my inspiration there. Yes, of course! Blue!

Now, Trixie was already wearing our new blue denim dress, and I had just changed into blue jeans, so it was easy enough for the two of us to conform to the theme, but poor Tessie had a little trouble finding the right atess1atrix1atill1kind of clothes to fit in. We don’t have as much blue in our wardrobe as you might think we do! Part of that might be because we wear size “NB,” which of course for us means “Never Bigger,” but this size is also worn by babies, and of course, if little boy babies are wearing NB clothes, those clothes tend to have a decidedly masculine flair about them, like pictures of trucks, and dogs, and baseballs, and collars and buttons and pockets, which just don’t look right on us Whimsie girls. So, yes, not too much blue in our wardrobe.

But at last Tessie did rummage through and find this adorable little blue demin hat, and so…ta-dum!! Here we all are, all wearing blue, and all wearing some kind of demin.

You’ll notice that I’m still in my new blue long-sleeve shirt. It’s so comfortable, I can’t bear to take it off! And my blue jeans are equally comfortable.

Trixie is wearing the blue demin dress, but for this photo shoot, she has dressed it up with some leggings in her signature color, pink!

And Tessie, as mentioned, sports that jaunty light blue demin hat above an outfit of soft baby blue pants, and a striped shirt.

Don’t we all look lovely in blue? And don’t we look lovely against the new green tablecloth? You’ll notice there’s a green bowl on the table that’s full of pine cones. We tend to have a lot of wasps in this area of Whimsieville, and Miss Chrissy read that wasps don’t like the smell of cloves or cinnamon, so she set out these cinnamon pine cones and sprinkled them with clove oil, and we are hoping for the best. At least while we were taking our pictures, no wasps annoyed us. So maybe it’s working already?

table1You’ll notice also that I am still wearing the shoes. Sigh… I love our shoes. I hate to give them up. But truth be told, soon it will be so warm in Whimsieville that nobody will want to wear shoes. We’ll all look forward to going barefoot through the green, green grass, as we take our dinosaurs on their daily walk! Not too long ago we announced that Spring has sprung, but amazingly, it will soon enough be Summer!

And when it is, we Whimsies will be ready for it, with a new collection of beautiful outfits! We always manage to make ourselves appropriately attractive, no matter what the season. Dressing up and having our pictures taken is only some of the fun of being a Whimsie!

whims2Last week, Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD stunned the Whimsies into utter speechlessness, but this week they made up for it with spirited conversation. I was glad to hear that most of their comments were upbeat, though they did drift into an occasional moment of despair. Their talk went on for way too long for me to present the entire discussion, but here are some of the highlights.

TESSIE. Well here’s the good news. Yes, we have surprises this week, but none of them are…devastating.

TRIXIE. You mean like last week, when we find out Ward is one of the bad guys. Yes, that was devastating.

TILLIE. It was. But I think we’re all dealing with it pretty well now, don’t you?

TESSIE. It was a tough week…

TRIXIE. But we’ve had time to adjust. So yeah…we’ll be okay…aaaward

TILLIE. And I hate to keep saying this to you girls, when you keep trying to come up with ways that maybe Ward is not really evil—maybe it’s a Life Model Decoy, or a twin brother, or whatever, but honestly, we have to face the facts…he’s shooting people left and right. He’s evil.

TESSIE. (sighing) Yeah…I know.

TRIXIE. But, in a way, it’s kind of good that he’s evil.

TESSIE AND TILLIE. (flabbergasted) What???

TRIXIE. Well, I mean it’s good, because now we have a good story going. It’s good for the story. Not for Ward. And certainly not for Skye, or the other agents. But good for us. Sort of.

TESSIE. Very much ‘sort of.’ It’s strange, but I can see how you could say that…in a warped kind of way.

TRIXIE. Well, let’s think about it. What’s going to happen to him now? Either he’s a bad guy and he gets killed, or sent to prison, or he gets redeemed, and changes his mind, and becomes a good guy again.

TESSIE. (excitedly) Or there’s not need to “redeem” him, because he’s already a triple agent! And when all is said and done, he’s actually just a good guy, pretending to be a bad guy.

TILLIE. (sighing) Tess…I know how much you want that to be true. But really…I don’t think so…shooting people? Remember? Left and right…

TESSIE. (dejectedly) Yeah…I know what you mean…

THEY ARE SILENT A MOMENT, MOURNING THE LOSS OF WARD’S GOOD GUY STATUS, THEN….

TILLIE. (brightly) But what about Fitz? He was kind of cute this week, wasn’t he?

TRIXIE. When he said “Shish! Everybody just shish!!”

TESSIE. Yeah, that was cute.

TILLIE. Also, when he gave Trip that look….

TRIXIE. What look?

TILLIE. When Trip joined them on the plane, and Coulson at first didn’t want to let him, ‘cos he didn’t trust him, but Simmons stuck up for him. Then we see Fitz looking at them, and he’s all…not really sure he’s on board the Trip Train.aaatrip

TESSIE. I know. I think maybe he’s a little jealous. He knows maybe Simmons and Trip are…you know…

TRIXIE. Ya think?

TESSIE. I think maybe. I think at least Trip likes her.

TRIXIE. And so does Fitz. He likes Simmons too.

TILLIE. But only as a friend. I don’t think he really has romantic feelings for Simmons. He likes Skye.

TRIXIE. Ya think?

TILLIE. Well, they hinted about it before.

TESSIE. But now Ward likes Skye, and she likes him.

TILLIE. Yeah, but we know THAT can’t turn out well…

TRIXIE. Well anyway, that’s next week, right? At least looking at the coming attractions, looks like we’ll find out more about Ward and Skye next week. But what about this week?

TILLIE. I thought it was a good episode for Agent Coulson. He had a lot to do, a lot to deal with. He had that ‘crisis of faith’ moment where he throws up his SHIELD badge, like he’s going to throw it away, but that’s how they discover the secret base.

TRIXIE. That was cool!

TILLIE. Yeah, it was like…saved by the bell!

TESSIE. I’m so glad they found that base! They needed some place to go! They couldn’t stand out in the cold like that all night!aaasnow

TILLIE. True. They couldn’t. But didn’t they all look adorable in their winter coats?

TRIXIE. (giggling)And Agent Koenig…how funny was he? Going on and on about the lanyards!aaalanyard

TESSIE. I liked him. I’m glad they added him to the show. I hope they keep him around. As in: I hope they don’t kill him.

TILLIE. (agreeing) At least not any time soon.

TESSIE. At least not ever! Why do they have to keep killing people? I was just starting to like Victoria Hand, and then they kill her! Not fair!!

TILLIE. No, it’s not fair, Tess. But we knew what we were getting into when we started watching this show. We’d seen Buffy, we’d seen Angel. We knew how Joss Whedon likes to do things, and we chose to watch it anyway. So we have no one to blame but ourselves.

TRIXIE. The whole show is kind of feeling more and more like Buffy and Angel now, don’t you think? There’s the whole Scooby Gang thing going on, and the gang is growing and changing. And also, there were certain shots of Ward when he reminded me so much of Angel—

TESSIE. You mean Angelus.aaaangel

TRIXIE. Yes! The Good Guy/Bad Guy. He was just like that.

TILLIE. Only Ward has made a decision to be a bad guy. He’s not the victim of a curse. He’s a victim of his own history.

TESSIE. Wow…Till…you sound like a…psychiatrist…

TILLIE. (shrugging) Jennifer’s mom was a psychiatrist. Well, she was a professor in the Psychology Department. We used to sit around at night with her sometimes and have discussions.

TRIXIE. Ward definitely has a “history” he could be a victim of. Remember him talking about a mean brother? I’m sure that has something to do with why he decided to be a bad guy.

TESSIE. And Garrett! He got to Ward at a young age and recruited him into Hydra.aaahydra

TILLIE. Oh! I hate Hydra!

TRIXIE. Me too! Only, I also LOVE it!

TESSIE AND TILLIE. (flabbergasted) What??aaaposter

TRIXIE. Because of the story! It makes for a good story! Now we have a ‘Big Bad’ that’s really big, and really bad, so there’s going to be a lot of action, a lot of developments!

TESSIE.(reluctantly) Well…I see your point…and I guess it’s good. As long as nobody gets killed.

TRIXIE. No guarantee of that. But one thing that is guaranteed: whatever happens, it will be EXCITING!!!

They went on and on like this, discussion each character and all the new developments, and what they think might happen next, and I could go on and on, but I think you get the idea. The Whimsies are along for the ride, no matter what happens.

mowtillAs we’ve been mentioning for a couple of weeks now, Spring is beginning to spring around here, and with that we’ve been getting a lot of rain in Whimsieville, and with that, the grass has been growing quite a bit. And it’s growing GREEN, which is such a delight to see, after months and months of dry, dead brown grass.

But when the grass begins to grow green, that means sooner or later it has to be cut, and this morning, The Man and Miss Chrissy decided it was time to drag out the lawn-mower and get started! I remember the lawn-mower as being very noisy, and a little bit frightening, but after watching last week’s episode of SHIELD, I’ve decided there are a lot more frightening things in the world than a lawn-mower, so I asked Miss Chrissy if I could come outside and help. She is always more than willing to accomodate us Whimsies, especially if we are trying to get over our fears, so she said “Of course!” and even brought out this cute little gray fleece jacket for me to wear, since the morning air was still a little chilly. This jacket is so cozy and comfy, and matches so well with my gray fleece pants! As you can see, there is a hood, lined in red cotton. But it was not that cool outside that I needed to use the hood, so I decided to let it just lie fashionably along my shoulders.

This jacket is one of our Florida Finds, and we thought we wouldn’t have a chance to wear it until next Fall, but since it was so chilly, I put on the jacket, and the shoes, and hopped outside. There really wasn’t very much I could do to help, except scream out if I saw a bumble bee or wasp coming in for an attack. mowsqueeBut gratefully, due to the early hour, there was not much activity on that front.

Mr. Squee also came out for a short time, to “help,” though it was not until the very end of the grass mowing, when the machine was getting ready to be put away. Mr. Squee says he is not afraid of the mower, but he does find the loud noise very distateful. He prefers the mower when it is quiet.

This was a great chance to get outside in the cool air and sunshine, so I really enjoyed the opportunity. As the weather gets nicer and nicer, and the days get longer and longer, there will no doubt be many more opportunities for us Whimsies to go outside and enjoy the sunshine, and assist with whatever new outdoor activities might come up.

At least now, with the lawn freshly mowed, when we take Fred, Wilma, Barney and Betty for a walk, they will not have to lift up their little miniature dinosaur legs so high just to get through the grass! I’m imagining this means they will have a lot more energy, and be able to walk even longer and even further than before. So, with all these new developments, who knows what adventures we might all have as we begin to venture further and further into the utmost reaches of Whimsieville!
