We recently got our first pair of shoes, and we love them, so I hope Miss Chrissy will not be offended when I say that our little white lace-ups can’t hold a candle to these boots! Just look at this impish Whimsie, in her pink and white countrified dress, and those great, sassy red leather boots! She looks like she could stomp around in the mud all day in those boots and never have to worry about getting her tootsies dirty. Those look like strong, good healthy boots for a strong, good healthy Whimsie.
I’ll bet this Whimsie is named Suzy, and she lives on a farm, or better yet, a cattle ranch. She probably helps her Paw wrangle in the cows every evening at sunset, and only then puts on her frilly, lacy dress to head on down to the local saloon for a fun night of square dancing. Oh yes! It looks like she could square dance all night in those boots!
The way Suzy is posing here is not very ladylike, but then, Suzy herself is probably not very ladylike. I’m sure she cusses and spits and slaps her knee whenever something strikes her as funny. Maybe her Maw is trying to make her act like more of a lady (see how she’s had Suzy pose against that pretty white satin), but for all that trying, Miss Suzy will only agree to put on her frilly, lacy dress when she goes out square dancing. But even then, she refuses to take off those boots! And I’ll bet a lot of the time, she hangs around in blue jeans…or maybe even overalls! Gee…I would love it if Miss Chrissy could find us a nice pair of overalls…
Looking at Miss Suzy here, I think I might like to live on a farm. I think I might even like to try square dancing. But there’s one thing I don’t have to think about very long or very much to be certain of: I KNOW I would love a pair of boots like Miss Suzy’s!
This Whimsie scares me a little.
Red can be an angry color, and I’m afraid that if I ever met this Whimsie, and for any reason might make her angry (quite by accident, I assure you! I would never do anything to intentionally provoke anyone in a devil’s suit!), perhaps she would take it into her mind to poke me with that pitchfork. Perhaps yes…perhaps no. At any rate, I don’t want to find out.
Tomorrow the clocks “Spring Ahead” for Daylight Savings Time, and it’s just in time! Because suddenly the weather has taken a turn for the better—if by ‘better” you mean that we can now go outside in some of the pretty warm weather dresses Miss Chrissy has been buying for us all Winter long.
First…ME!! I thought I’d pose with our Christmas Oggz from Santa Claus, since we’ve been enjoying them ever since Christmas, but they don’t often get into our photographs. Mostly because they’re so darn hard to photograph well! They might look overbright here, not showing their true colors…but you can’t say the same thing about my new pink outfit! Notice the cute little bow on the top of the polka dot shirt. And the pants are a beautiful shade of light pink! Sure, we have lots and lots of pink pants already, but none in this brilliant color. And the entire outfit feels so very soft and comfortable. Just the perfect thing for laying about on a lazy Sunday and gazing at the colorful Christmas Oggz.
Tessie is modeling a new jammie in a sassy pink leopard print. How adorable is this? There’s a little pink kittle on the left shoulder with the word “Prrrrrrfect.” I’ll say! This jammie fits a Whimsie just perfectly, and is soft without being overly heavy and warm. You’ll see, though, that Tessie has chosen to pair this new jammie with one of our fine white furry hats, just in case the weather might get a little colder than it is.
But it’s not been incredibly cold these last couple of days, which is why adventuresome Trixie decided to go outdoors for her photoshoot. It was her turn to wear the shoes, and she figured as long as she was wearing shoes, she wanted to step out of the house. She only got as far as the garage, however, in this cute little pink dress that is really more appropriate for Spring and Summer weather, and decided that was far enough. She stopped only long enough for Miss Chrissy to take a couple of pictures, then jumped off the back of the car and ran back into the house as fast as her little shoes would carry her.
This morning I woke up earlier than anybody else, and stayed in bed a while, listening to the birds chirping outside my window. It suddenly occurred to me that it has been a long time since I’ve heard or seen birds, so I crept to the window and looked outside and sure enough, there were birds busily feeding! Miss Chrissy has left a feeder out for them all Winter, though there haven’t been many visitors. But this morning I saw some cute little gray birds, pecking away at the seed.
I wanted to see the birds, so I stopped by the feeder, but of course, if you come near the feeder, the birds fly away. They’re very skittish like that. But I asked Miss Chrissy to take this picture of me, just so I could post it here, to always remember how crisp and wonderful it felt on this Winter morning, when the promise of Spring is hovering around the edges of the day.
Here in Whimsieville, it strikes me that the seasons are just about right. In the Winter, it doesn’t snow so much that it becomes tiresome (or worse yet, dangerous!) and our Summers are not generally so hot for so long that we despair of ever again feeling cool and comfortable. Autumn and Spring have much to recommend them. I do so love the repeating “Circle of Life!”
