trixIt’s the middle of October, but here in Whimsieville, the weather is only just now beginning to cool off. So we have just a few more weeks to wear some of our summer fashions. I thought I’d take a moment to show you some of the beautiful summer clothing Miss Chrissy has found for us at that fashionable boutique she calls The Thrift Store.

First, here’s a picture of me wearing a cute little skirt. At our small size (“NB”) Miss Chrissy says it is often difficult to find skirts. But she found this one, and it even has built-in bloomers! Isn’t this cute? And so very comfortable! I especially like pairing this skirt with a simple pink shirt. And how about my whimsical pinwheel? Now I’ll always know which way the wind is blowing!

tessTake a look at Tessie here, who’s wearing another fun outfit with some beautiful colors. Of course she’s wearing pink, which is always so easy to find in our “NB” size, but check out her cute little top in turquiose! And that hat is just too much! What a great ensemble! Looks like Tessie and I could head out together for a fun afternoon of shopping and going to the movies!

tillTillie chose to go in a slightly different direction for this fashion show. Look at her beautiful white dress with those cute little details of the red checkered flower and ladybug. We Whimsies LOVE ladybugs! They are so whimsical! And how about Tillie’s hat! It keeps the summer sun off her face, and is a perfect frame for her beautiful long hair.

All of our clothes are so comfortable, and while we Whimsies always like looking good, it’s so much more important to feel good. And we feel great in our summer clothes!

Last time Miss Chrissy visited The Thrift Store boutique, she got us some nice items for the Fall, which will be quickly approaching. Can’t wait to show you those outfits, when we get there!

tillieavatar2Tillie here. And I have a long story to tell you. It’s the story of how we all came to live in Whimsieville, and it’s all tied up with this game from the 1960’s: Memory. It’s also tied up with a lot of memories.

The way Miss Chrissy tells it, one day not too long ago, she was reminiscing about different toys and games she had when she was a child in the 1960’s, and suddenly she remembered this game called…Memory! cards

Well, it’s entirely appropriate that one would REMEMBER Memory. This game is in fact still around, but Miss Chrissy remembered a very specific set of cards, and wondered if she could still find the game with these special cards. So of course she went to The EBay, where one can find all kinds of things that aren’t in stores anymore. And sure enough…there it was! The Memory Game, with the very same cards she remembered! So she put in a bid…and won!

Now, thinking about the Memory game from her childhood, Miss Chrissy naturally remembered many other aspects of her childhood, especially some of the friends she used to have back then, and her thoughts immediately flew to Tessie. christmas plaid
Tessie was one of Miss Chrissy’s best friends back then, and it was a terrible, terrible day when the dogs (or wolves) dragged Tessie away from the Clubhouse. Miss Chrissy cried and cried, as she had never cried before. Till that time in her young life, she had never lost anything or anyone so important, so this was her first experience of loss, and it hit her very hard.

Over the years, the pain of the memory of losing her friend Tessie was replaced with other, kinder memories, but she never completely forgot Tessie. The thought of her missing friend was always somewhere in the back of her mind, like a little dark cloud on the horizon on an otherwise sunny day. And when she found the MEMORY game, which sparked the memory of Tessie, it suddenly occurred to her that perhaps…just perhaps…she might be able to use The The Ebay to find her long lost friend.

Of course she started on The EBay, since she was already there, and that is the most logical place to start…and lo and behold! She did not have to look far! For it seemed that our Caretaker from the Hoard (though you could hardly call her a “Caretaker,” for she never took very good care of us at all) had just passed to the Great Beyond (where, hopefully, there are no Hoards), and the Estate Managers had stepped in to see what could be “done about” The Hoard.

Tessie, Trixie and I all knew we were going to have to leave The Hoard, and didn’t mind at all, since it was an awful place. But Trixie was upset that she would be separated from her beloved Thor Comics, and I fervently hoped I would go someplace with a lot of Books, and Tessie wanted to end up where she could listen to Music all day long. But all these concerns took a back seat to our main concern: we did not wish to be separated from each other.

HOARD

Us Whimsies are not certain how long we existed in The Hoard. When life is not entirely pleasant, it always seems we are there much longer than we think. But during that time, however long it was, the three of us had forged a strong friendship. And no Comics, or Books, or Music could make up for the possibility that the three of us might have to go to different places. We tried our best to stick together, always holding hands, to let the Estate Managers know that we were a TEAM, but there was so much for them to have to deal with in That Enormous Hoard, that they were not paying very close attention to the particulars.

And so, we each went up for adoption separately.

It was at this time, however, that Miss Chrissy had just purchased the Memory Game, and began to look for Tessie, and lo and behold found her, and paid the adoption fee. At the time, Tessie didn’t know she was going back to her childhood friend, she only knew she was leaving her two current friends, me and Trixie.

It was a terrible terrible day when Tessie was taken away. It was terrible for Tessie, because it brought up so many memories of that horrific experience so long ago when she had been kidnapped by the dogs. This was not as traumatic, because the Estate Managers provided her with very comfy accommodations to her new home. But it was heartbreaking to me and Trixie that we might never see our friend Tessie again.

We cried and cried.

Tessie told us later that she cried too, but when, after a voyage of several days she finally arrived at her destination and discovered that it was Miss Chrissy herself who had adopted her, she was so filled with joy that her tears turned instantly from sorrow to happiness! 1sttess

From the pictures of Tessie on The EBay, Miss Chrissy had only suspected, and had only HOPED that the Whimsie she was adopting might be the very same Tessie she had known so many years ago. And when Tessie arrived, it was immediately apparent that those hopes and prayers had been answered!

The two old friends had a wonderful time of homecoming, catching up on all the news…and some of the news, Tessie was quick to tell Miss Chrissy, was that she had made two very good friends named Tillie and Trixie who were now also up for adoption on The EBay.

Well! Miss Chrissy wasted no time! She ran right to The EBay and paid those adoption fees, and within a week us Three Amigas were reunited! And not only are we reunited, but now we also have a good friend in Miss Chrissy, who takes so much better care of us than we ever got in The Hoard, and to make things even better, in our new home, there is no end to Comics and Books and Music!

It took us a little while to all calm down from marveling over what good fortune had fallen upon us. We spent quite a while just getting adjusted to our new environment. At first, it was all about getting ourselves cleaned up and prettied up, and getting into some new and comfortable clothes. And then it was about exploring our new home, finding all those Comics and Books and Music. This new home of ours, which we have christened Whimsieville, is like a huge, magical castle, full of wonders around every corner.

FOOTBALLMiss Chrissy and The Man have to spend a good part of most days away from Whimsieville, but while they are gone, we always find ways to occupy ourselves. And then we are happy to see them in the evenings. And on weekends. Though lately, they spend much of the day they call Saturday watching another kind of game they call Football. It’s an exciting game, and sometimes Our People enjoy it so much that they make a lot of noise, which frightens Mr. Squee, so he goes and hides in the bathtub.

We don’t mind Football, though we certainly don’t understand it. Maybe someday we’ll take the time to learn about it, but for right now, there’s just too much to keep us busy!mem

game1

And one of the things that keeps us busy is this Memory game, which we like to play as often as we can. We found it one day and asked Miss Chrissy if we could play, and she said of course, as long as we don’t lose any of the cards. Miss Chrissy played the game with us a few times, and then after that, we’ve played numerous games on our own, usually while Miss Chrissy and The Man are watching Football.

game3 tesswins Sometimes we play all three together, but sometimes we have a Championship Playoff, to see who is the best. So far Tessie is taking those honors, almost every time. First she plays Trixie, and wins….and then she plays me, and wins again!

Trixie says it’s a good thing she does not have a very good memory, because there are certain things that have happened to her that she would like to forget. I would just like to forget about The Hoard, and mostly I do, because Miss Chrissy keeps Whimsieville very clean.

The Hoard was a terrible place I do not wish to remember, but at the same time, that is where I met Tessie and Trixie, so I don’t want to forget about it altogether. It seems to me that most of the time, the good is mixed with the bad. And sometimes, I think, if we didn’t have the Bad, then the Good would not seem so good.

Whenever I’m sititng with my two best friends in the whole world, playing the Memory game, I like to remember that.

tillieavatar2aaapicardOkay, okay, I admit it already. Tessie and Trixie called me out during our last Round Table Discussion about SHIELD. I think they were just kidding about me having a crush on Captain Picard, and I didn’t say anything at the time, because I was getting sleepy and wanted to go to bed, but now I’ll admit it. YES! I’m a Captain Picard girl! So there!

Well, I guess I should start by acknowledging that having a crush on an older gentleman like Captain Picard is indeed rather non-conventional…for a Whimsie. But then, I like to think of myself as a non-conventional Whimsie! My background is a lot different than that of Tillie and Trixie. I was never mistreated, I was never traumatized. For years and years I lived with my Person, a girl named Jennifer, in a lovely sprawling ranch home in Connecticut, and both her parents were College Professors, and in fact, she went on to become a College Professor herself. During my time with Jennifer, I was exposed to a lot of upper crust stuff, a lot of Literature and fancy Music, and my tastes developed from there.

One taste that developed was this: I like smart guys. And who is smarter than Captain Picard? Well, I guess there probably are lots of people who are smarter, but sometimes just being smart is not good enough. Sometimes you have to know what to DO with those smarts. aaapicard-engage And Captain Picard always knows what to do. He’s always confident and in charge. I find that very attractive.

While I was living with my Person Jennifer in Connecticut, we watched a lot of Star Trek together. At first, we watched the one with Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock. During those shows, I would sit on the bed with Jennifer and we would watch together. Those were good times.

Later, when Star Trek The Next Generation came on, the one with Captain Picard, Jennifer was too Old to sit with me anymore, which was sort of sad, but I did have a very good vantage point from a shelf that reached almost to the ceiling. I saw a lot of good Star Trek episodes from there, and was always impressed by how much better Captain Picard was than Captain Kirk.

To me, Kirk was sort of full of himself. He was always coming on to women, and it kinda struck me as…sleazy. But with Picard, it was always the women that were interested in him! And usually he had to turn them down, because of course he was “married” to the Enterprise. I like a man who takes his job seriously.

aaaenterpriseAlso, from all I’ve seen of People, there are only a certain number that can look good with no hair, and Captain Picard is at the top of that list! Oh, and I also love his accent. And when he says, “Make it so.” It’s like, he doesn’t ask anyone HOW are you going to do it, or even CAN you do it, he just says, “Make it so.” He expects other people to know how to do their job, and do it the right way.

And I also like when he tugs on the bottom of his shirt. That’s so cute. LOL! You would never think about calling a refined gentleman like Captain Picard “cute,” but when he tugs on his shirt, well, you just have to admit: so cute!

I don’t necessarily know if I agree with everything in the Star Trek Universe. Some of it seems just too idealistic to me. But this appeals to me very much: everyone working together in peace and harmony, to discover new things, and make the world a better place. We get to see a few No-Good-Niks now and then in the Star Trek universe, but most of the time most of the people are all on the same page, working for the same goals. Everyone is so “self-actualized” (a term I learned from Jennifer’s parents) that they probably don’t even NEED leaders most of the time, they’ll just do the right thing because it IS the right thing.

That would be a perfect world, wouldn’t it? But for those times when leaders ARE needed, if you ask me, you can’t do better than Captain Jean Luc Picard!

aaaawesome

3whim(The Whimsies are really enjoying Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, and are even beginning to form special attachments to some of the characters. Listen:)

Trixie. Okay. So you have to admit, in that opening scene, when the cars go flying all over the place, that was pretty cool.

Tessie. YEAH!!! Surprised the heck out of me!

Tillie. I guess that was when I realized this was not just any ordinary truck driver. And then when the whole truck went straight up in the air…well, I thought that was pretty ambitious for television.

Trixie. Yeah! I felt like I was watching one of the Marvel movies!

Tillie. I’ll be you expected Thor to suddenly appear!

Trixie. Nah. I knew right away it had to be something about Graviton.gravity

Tessie. You mean the scientist who went into that blobby gray stuff? I’d never even heard of Graviton before this.

Trixie. He controls gravity.

Tillie. Well, we get that…NOW!

Trixie. It was a nice touch, don’t you think, to have one of the existing Marvel villains come into the show?

Tessie. Yeah. And I don’t think that’s the last we’re going to hear of him. Sure, they locked him away in that vault at the end, but then when you see that hand pop out…I’m like….WHOA!!!

Tillie. Me too. Only I thought it was going to be a face, not a hand.

Trixie. It was a good episode.

Tessie. It sure was. And you know what was the best part about it? Finding out about Skye, that she’s really with them, not against them.

Tillie. Yeah…I’m glad we got that cleared up! I thought for sure we’d have that dark cloud hanging over our head for the rest of the season, so I was kinda surprised they resolved that all so quickly.

Tessie. And it is resolved, isn’t it? I mean, in that last scene, when she’s doing the punching bag with Agent Ward, I think she sounds pretty sincere.

Trixie. I think it sounds like she’s had a rough life. I had no idea she was…an orphan…

(They all get very quiet. Then…)

Tillie. (quietly) Like you, Trix.

Trixie. Yeah. And like Tess, too.

Tessie. (nodding) Nobody wanted us. For a long time.

Trixie. (sadly) Just like Skye…we were never a “good fit” either….

Tessie. Well, I was. With Miss Chrissy. Before the dogs dragged me away. But after that…

Tillie. (suddenly, brightly, breaking the somber mood) It’s been hard for both of you, I know. And for Skye. But look! That’s all over now, right? You guys are here with me in Whimsieville, and Skye is with SHIELD, and she’s determined to make it work.

Trixie. Oh! I hope she does! I hope they all like her, and accept her. I hope she finally gets to fit in…

Tillie. I think she will, Trix.

Trixie. And I hope she learns how to fight, and how to defend herself, and how to do all the cool agent stuff like Agent Ward and May can do. She CAN be strong. And strong is a good thing to be.

Tessie. I think she already is strong, Trix. She just needs to get some skills.

Tillie. Yeah, skills can be taught. But you know what can’t be taught?pinkdress

Trixie. (never skipping a beat) Being as pretty as she is?

Tillie. Yeah! That! Exactly.

Trixie. She sure did look nice in that pink dress, didn’t she?

Tessie. Just like you, Trix! Pretty in pink!prettypink

Trixie. (giggles) Hee hee…so I guess me and Skye have lots in common.

Tessie. You sure do.

Tillie. So I guess it’s pretty clear who Trixie’s favorite character is so far. What about you, Tess? Who’s your favorite?

Trixie. Oh, I know this one! I know this!

Tessie. (surprised) What do you know?

Trixie. I know who you like, Tess!

Tessie. (blushing) You do?

Trixie. Sure! You have a crush on Fitz!

Tessie. (blushing more) I do?

Tillie. (laughing) Of course! It’s so obvious, Tess. You just hang on his every word.

Tessie. I do? I mean…Who can hang on all those words, anyway? I don’t understand half of what he says.

Trixie. Because he’s a rocket scientist.

Tillie. And because of his accent?

Trixie. Oh, Tessie has no trouble with his accent. You know how she is about accents. In fact, I’m quite sure it’s his accent that she finds so…crushablefitz2

Tessie. Well…you’re right. I have to admit. He’s adorable. Isn’t he?

Tillie. I concur, Tess! He IS adorable.

Trixie. Actually, guys, I think the term is…adorkable.

(They all giggle, then suddenly…)

Tessie. (defensively) Huh?? But wait!! He’s mine, you guys! I saw him first!

Tillie. Oh, you can have him, girl. He can be your crush.

Trixie. Tillie! Why are you giving him up so easy? I thought you liked all those smart guys.

Tillie. I do! I do! Smart is the new sexy! Isn’t that what they say?

Trixie. Okay, but who’s smarter than Fitz? I mean unless you’re talking about Simmons….

Tillie. She’s cute in her own way, of course. But not in the way I would have a crush.

Trixie. Then who—?

Tessie. (suddenly realizing) Coulson! You like Agent Coulson!!

Tillie. And why shouldn’t I? He may not be as smart as Fitz, but he IS smart in his own way.

Trixie. (agreeing) And he’s very confident.

Tillie. Yeah. I like that about him. I like the way he leads the rest of them.

Tessie. (giggling) And you like the way he looks in a suit, too, I’ll bet.

Tillie. (sighing) I’ve got to admit. I’ve always had a thing for a well-dressed man….

Trixie. When he came off the lifeboat, he was wearing his suit!

Tessie. (giggles) Yeah. That was funny.

Tillie. Yeah. It was funny. But it was also kind of the defining moment for me, because I suddenly realized, no matter what’s happening, Agent Coulson is always going to look good, never going to look ruffled. He’s got everything under control.

Tessie. (carefully) But there’s one thing, Till. You know…he may not be Agent Coulson at all.

Tillie. I know. You mean because of when he died, and then he went to Tahiti—

Trixie. The Magical Place.

Tillie. So it might not really be him at all. I mean, the real Agent Coulson might really be dead.

Trixie. Oh!! I hope not!

Tillie. And this…person…who looks like him might only be…what is it called, Trix?

Trixie. A Life Model Decoy.COULSON

Tessie. A…what?

Trixie. Well, it’s kind of like a robot. An android.

Tessie. Like Data, in Star Trek?

Trixie. Yeah, I guess. Only Agent Coulson doesn’t look anything like a robot.

Tessie. Like Data. Whose skin is kind of silvery…kind of yellow…

Tillie. Agent Coulson looks good. Like a real person. But I’m ready to accept that he might not be a real person.

Trixie. Well, he did say something this week about not having any…what? Muscle memory? Like his muscles should remember how to work a gun?

Tessie. But if he’s a robot, then he wouldn’t….have any… muscles?

Trixie. Exactly.

Tessie. (after a moment) But that is so WEIRD!!

Trixie. (matter-of-factly) Well, we are living in a comic book world, my dear. Anything could happen.

Tillie. And anything probably will. I wonder what they’ve got in store for us next week…data

Tessie. We have a whole week to wait. In the meantime, I’m thinking maybe we should take some of those Star Trek DVD’s off the shelf and watch some shows about Data.

Trixie. Why?

Tessie. Well…to pass the time until the next SHIELD show. And also because Data’s kind of…

Tillie. What? Don’t tell me he’s kind of cute!

Trixie. Tessie! Don’t tell me you’ve got a crush on Data!

Tessie. Well, why not? If you can have a crush on Thor, I can have a crush on Data!

(Tillie and Trixie roll their eyes. Then…)

Tillie. She’s got a point, Trix.

Trixie. Well, nobody’s watching anything right now, because it’s late, and I think it’s time we all got some sleep.

Tessie. Good idea. We’ll watch Star Trek tomorrow.

Tillie. Okay. I’m on board with that.pickard

Tessie. You are? I didn’t know you were a Star Trek fan, Till!

Trixie. Wait, wait! Don’t tell me! Tillie’s got a crush on Captain Pickard!

(The three Whimsies giggle, and settle down into their beds, and after a few more sighs, they are asleep.)

WITHSQUEEThe Whimsies had just changed into some new soft clothes for hanging out around the house (including some “footie” stretch pants and comfy cozy socks in crazy colors), when I caught this candid pic of them together with Mr. Squee.

There was no hint of trouble anywhere, yet he seemed to want to stay close. I suspect Mr. Squee is beginning to see himself as more of a pal to the Whimsees and not just a protector. He seems to fulfill both roles very well.
