Santa Claus is not the only one who got us Christmas presents! Miss Chrissy and The Man also had some gifts wrapped up for us under the tree. Here we are enjoying just a couple of them. As you can see, we are reading a book about Birds. Miss Chrissy got us this book, because recently we’ve been enjoying watching the birds come to the feeders outside our bedroom window, and we’ve been discussing what kinds of birds they might be. Some are very easy to identify, but others…not so much.

We Whimsies love Nature, and we find birds particularly whimsical. Our favorite birds are hummingbirds, but of course we don’t see any of those in Winter. Right now, we see a lot of pigeons, and wrens, and sometimes even a woodpecker or two! And sometimes we see birds that we don’t even know what kind they are!

That’s why this book will come in handy. It will help us to identify all the different types of birds outside our window. And it will also help us to identify all kinds of birds we will probably never see in real life, because they don’t come to our area of the country. But just because we will never have the chance to see them, doesn’t mean we don’t find them interesting! In fact, I would say it’s the things you will never really get to see that nip1tend to be the most interesting. And that’s okay, because it’s quite clear that nobody could ever live long enough or travel far enough to see everything there is to see in the world. That’s why we love books.

In addition to this huge and extremely informative book Miss Chrissy got for us, The Man included another present for our book reading. You see, very often we Whimsies like to stay up late into the night, reading books. Sometimes that means we have a light on in our room for many many hours after Miss Chrissy and The Man have gone to bed. But with our new nifty little clip-on book-reading night-light, there is no need for us to burn light bulbs for hours on end! And the night-light throws such a pleasant circle of blue-ish light, that we feel so confortable sitting under its glow.

Well, those are some more things we got for Christmas. And yesterday Tessie mentioned that I would tell you about one of the gifts Mr. Squee is currently enjoying. As you know, Mr. Squee is a cat, so he happens to enjoy a bit of CATNIP now and then. Here he is, resting against his scratching post, after an energetic session of eating and sniffing and rolling around in his latest acquisition of catnip. He’s so funny to watch when he’s “getting nipped.” It doesn’t last long though, and too soon he is back cockatooto his prim and proper self, and back at work, keeping all of us here in Whimsieville safe from dogs and wolves. Mr. Squee works so hard and so diligently at his job, that he certainly deserves these brief moments of relaxation.

And speaking of relaxation, I think I’m getting ready to go back and join Tessie and Trixie under the night-light to read all about parrots and macaws and the salmon-crested cockatoo! He’s a jaunty looking fellow, wouldn’t you say?

3socksssssYesterday Trixie told you about the Oggz we got from Santa Claus, and today I’m here to tell you about another present—socks! We didn’t ask for the Oggz, because we never knew there was such a thing, but of course we know all about socks, and so we asked Santa to bring us lots and lots of pretty, comfy socks…and he did!

Now, I know what you’re thinking: who the heck asks for socks for Christmas? Right? The general thinking is that children don’t like to get clothes for Christmas, they just like to get toys. Well, that may be true, but, as we’ve mentioned before, we are NOT babies, and also, we are NOT children. We’re Whimsies! And, as Whimsies, we have a keen interest in Fashion, so it turns out socks make an excellent gift for us!

During the winter time, we often wear footie-pajammies to keep our feet warm, but sometimes we like to wear sweatpants, and when we do, we neeed socks. We have a few pairs already, but it’s always nice to have more. I am a firm believer that you can never have too many socks.

Santa Claus stuffed our stockings with socks! I think between the three of us we got at least a dozen new pairs of socks, Here are just a few of them….

…and here is another picture of us, modeling our new socks! This is only the beginning of our collection! I think we have enough socks to keep our feet warm and pretty, no matter what outfits we may choose to wear.

dinosTomorrow Tillie will stop by to tell you about another really cool gift we got. But before I go, here’s one more Christmas gift I want to share. It was not for me and Tillie and Trixie, but for Fred and Wilma, Barney and Betty. Santa brought our pet dinosaurs a good supply of succulent jade leaves, which are so sweet, they are like candy for dinosaurs! As you can see, the four dinos are thoroughly enjoying their snack in their new home.

condo

Oooh oooh! I don’t think we got to tell you about ths yet. The dinosaurs have moved into the penthouse apartment of Mr. Squee’s condo! Mr. Squee mainly lives on the second floor, and he stores his Toys on the third floor, but no one is using the top floor, so Mr. Squee said the dinosaurs could live there…rent-free! Wasn’t that nice of him? They get plenty of sunshine, and since it’s up so high, they feel very safe.

Sometimes Mr. Squee tries to be all gruff and business-like (I think because he knows he has such an important job to do as Dog Catcher of Whimsieville), but when it comes right down to it, he is so often extremely kind, to all of us Whimsies, and everyone else here in Whimsieville (in his own very special and quiet way). Santa also brought Mr. Squee a very nice present, but I will leave that for Tillie to tell you about, when she stops by tomorrow with yet another installment of “Christmas in Whimsieville!”

trixoggHi, everyone! Trixie here. Well, Chistmas has come and gone, and Santa Claus has come and gone, and he left us with some pretty nice presents. Over the next few days we’re going to share our Christmas gifts with you here, and we’re starting today with…OGGZ!

What, you may ask, are Oggz? Well, they are this cool sort of “novelty lighting” that’s shaped like eggs, and they glow in all different colors of the rainbow. We got a group of three, and they sit on a little silver triangle thingy to “charge,” and when they are charged, you can flip a little switch on the bottom and they start glowing! Each Ogg glows in all the colors, switching colors every few seconds. It’s a continuous light show, and it’s fascinating to watch, and very relaxing.

tilloggYeah, these Oggz don’t actually DO anything, except look cool, but sometimes that’s all you want out of a present. No, wait. I take that back. The Oggz would be excellent as night lights, if we ever got scared, and felt like we wanted a little night light on as we were going to sleep. But we don’t really anticipate that will be the case. Mostly, we just like them because they’re pretty.

tessoggMiss Chrissy says the Oggz are very difficult to take pictures of, because the lighting has to be “just so,” and especailly if you are trying to take a picture of all of them at the same time, you can’t really make the Oggz be a certain color at a certain time, they just keep doing whatever they want to do. So it’s hard to get a picture of three Oggz showing three different colors at the same time. But I think the portrait she made of us below shows off the Oggz pretty well, and of course, don’t we all look comfy and cozy in our snuggly pajammies?

We didn’t ask Santa Claus for Oggz, because honestly, before we saw them on Christmas morning, we never even dreamed such a thing existed! Sometimes it’s nice to get the presents you asked for, and sometimes it’s just as good to get the presents you didn’t even know you wanted, until you see them. It’s always fun to find out about new things, don’t you think?

oggall

tessblueChristmas is getting very close now, and tonight we took a break from our TV Christmas specials and Santa Claus stake-out to read an old favorite Christmas book.

First, though, Miss Chrissy brought out some clothes she recently got for us at the Thrift Shop Boutique, and we were all very excited to put on new outfits. It was my turn to wear the blue polar bear jammies, but Tillie was more than willing to hand them over whenberrysweetshe saw the cute little green polka dot jammies Miss Chrissy had for her to wear. As you can see, the strawberries among the polka dots declare that Tillie is “Berry Sweet”! How cute!

pppTrixie put together another “Pretty in Pink” outfit, this one also sporting polka dots on the footie pants, as well as polka dots on a sleepy-eyed elephant! Whoever heard of a brown and white polka dot elephant? Not me! But he certainly looks contented. And I love the flowers on his ears!

Anyway, here we are in our new outfits, feeling all cozy and ready for a good book, and what does Miss Chrissy pull from the shelf but Mr. Willowby’s Christmas Tree! We all squealed with delight, remembering this book from long ago. As we’ve often mentioned, we Whimsies are NOT babies, but we were born in 1960, and this book was printed in 1963, so we fondly remember it from way back when, when we were actually children.

3bookMiss Chrissy confessed that she did not remember this book from her childhood, since at the time, she was a strict devotee of Dr. Seuss and Beverly Cleary. She only came across Mr. Willowby when her own children (who are now grown) were little, and loved to read everything they could get their hands on —Seuss, Cleary, Willowby, Sendak, Scarry, Curious George, Berenstain Bears and Goosebumps, to name a few. The list goes on and on!

Tillie, Trixie and I like some of those books too, but tonight, we were just so happy to see Mr. Willowby again, and read his tale with glee!

As the story goes, a rich man, Mr. Willowby, gets an enormous Christmas tree to place in his enormous house…but it’s just a little too tall, so he has Baxter the Bulter get up on this enormously tall ladder to snip off the very top. The top of the tree goes to Mr. Willowby’s upstairs maid, who finds the tree a wee bit too tall for her table, so she snips off the top and it ends up in the house of the gardener…who snips the top, which is lastpageadopted by some bears, who snip the top, which ends up going to the Fox family, and the tippy-top of their tree makes the Rabbit family very happy, but it’s too tall for their mantle so they snip-snip, and little Mistletoe Mouse takes that snip to his house, and it’s just perfect for his family! And what do you know? The Mouse family lives in a mouse hole in the baseboard of Mr. Willowby’s enormous house, right next to Mr. Willowby’s enormous Christmas tree.

So the moral of this story is that there is always enough Christmas tree to go around for everyone.

Sort of like Christmas Spirit.

I like this book because the rhymes are fun, and also because there’s a fat cat who belongs to the upstairs maid, and that cat kind of reminds me of Mr. Squee. Mr. Squee sat and listened to the story as it was read, and I think he enjoyed it, though he pretended to be sleeping at the time.

Next we want to re-read Never Tease a Weasel, which also has a lot of fun rhymes in it. But I think we’re going to wait until after Christmas, because right now the Christmas Spirit is so intense, who can concentrate on anything else?

bags Look at the Whims! How cute is this?? Since the last time you saw them, they’ve collected a few more Christmas bags, and even taken over the two stockings “hung by the chimney with care.” Now they’re camped out by the fireplace, and they look like they can’t wait for Santa Claus to make his visit!

I wonder what they think he’s going to leave them in all those bags and stockings? They won’t tell me…they say it’s a big secret. But I think I have an idea what kind of stuff the Whimsies are dreaming about when they settle down for their long Winter’s nap. And I think Santa Claus will be very kind to them this year.

Stay tuned and find out! Christmas is less than a week away now!
