Sometimes we like to look around on the internet to see other Whimsies like ourselves. Sometimes it makes us smile to see other Whimsies doing so well, wearing beautiful clothes and hats, and even shoes, looking like they are totally enjoying themselves wherever they are, on their own, or in the company of other Whimsies. That’s the bright side of the penny. But turn that penny over, and there’s a dark side. Because sometimes we we find poor little Whimsies, like these pictured here, who obviously are not having the best time of their lives, and it makes us sad, and makes us cry, “Oh, the poor dears!”
When I look at these three, what dirty ragamuffins they are, my heart goes out to them. I would wish that no Whimsies ever had to remain for so long wearing their same old dirty clothes for years and years, with dirty smudges on their faces, and such unkempt hair. In this picture, the first Whimsie at least has shoes (even though they are only very simple sandals), but you can clearly see the dirt on the feet of the other two girls, especially the one of the far right, and it makes me wonder how many years they’ve had to walk around on those dirty feet, and how tired and miserable their feet must be.
The fact that there are three of them sort of reminds me of myself, and Trixie and Tillie, which makes this portrait all the more poignant for me. We are three Whimsie friends, and but for the grace of God, and the kindness of Miss Chrissy, these three ragamuffins could be us!
I’ve dug into the Archives to find this picture of me, when Miss Chrissy first found me at the Ebay Adoption Agency, and brought me to Whimsieville. As you can see, I’m wearing the same dirty dress as the Whimsie in our “Poor Dears” picture, though honestly, I don’t think my dress is anywhere near as dirty. And my face has some smudges (how long did I walk around with that spot on my nose, and never even knew it??) but overall my complexion is bright.
But my hair?? My hair! Oh, let’s not even go there! The bottoms of my feet also have a bit of dirt on them, and I clearly remember how I had to walk around, all over the place, in that filthy Hoard (where I first met Trixie, and later Tillie) and that’s why I can say with certainty that a Whimsie with naked, dirty feet is also a Whimsie with tired, miserable feet. But still, I think overall, even in my worst state, I was never as destitute as any of the Whimsies in the picture above.
Our Archives also have some pictures of Trixie and Tillie when they first came to Whimsieville, how ragged, dirty and disheveled they looked, but I won’t embarrass them by showing those pictures now. That’s up to them, if they ever want to share that. But I just want to say, being ragged, dirty and disheveled is nothing to be ashamed of…but it is to be pitied, if a poor Whimsie has no people who care enough about her to take good care of her. No shame on the Whimsies, but shame, shame on the people who let a Whimsie stay in such a horrible state for so many years!
So our three ragamuffin Whimsies have no one to care about them, but there is one bright star in their Heaven: at least they have each other. And you can see that as dirty and tired-looking as they are, it’s a testament to the Whimsie Spirit that they still have big smiles upon their faces! No matter what you throw at a Whimsie, our kind has a hearty Spirit, and we will always have big smiles upon our cherubic faces. We are Eternal Optimists, always hopeful there are brighter and sunnier days ahead.
And sometimes we’re right about that. At least, I hope these three are right, and will someday find their own perfect place, with their own perfect Someone, who cares about them as much as Miss Chrissy cares for and about us. And if the three of them can stay together as good friends, well then…so much the better!
