Santa Claus is not the only one who got us Christmas presents! Miss Chrissy and The Man also had some gifts wrapped up for us under the tree. Here we are enjoying just a couple of them. As you can see, we are reading a book about Birds. Miss Chrissy got us this book, because recently we’ve been enjoying watching the birds come to the feeders outside our bedroom window, and we’ve been discussing what kinds of birds they might be. Some are very easy to identify, but others…not so much.
We Whimsies love Nature, and we find birds particularly whimsical. Our favorite birds are hummingbirds, but of course we don’t see any of those in Winter. Right now, we see a lot of pigeons, and wrens, and sometimes even a woodpecker or two! And sometimes we see birds that we don’t even know what kind they are!
That’s why this book will come in handy. It will help us to identify all the different types of birds outside our window. And it will also help us to identify all kinds of birds we will probably never see in real life, because they don’t come to our area of the country. But just because we will never have the chance to see them, doesn’t mean we don’t find them interesting! In fact, I would say it’s the things you will never really get to see that tend to be the most interesting. And that’s okay, because it’s quite clear that nobody could ever live long enough or travel far enough to see everything there is to see in the world. That’s why we love books.
In addition to this huge and extremely informative book Miss Chrissy got for us, The Man included another present for our book reading. You see, very often we Whimsies like to stay up late into the night, reading books. Sometimes that means we have a light on in our room for many many hours after Miss Chrissy and The Man have gone to bed. But with our new nifty little clip-on book-reading night-light, there is no need for us to burn light bulbs for hours on end! And the night-light throws such a pleasant circle of blue-ish light, that we feel so confortable sitting under its glow.
Well, those are some more things we got for Christmas. And yesterday Tessie mentioned that I would tell you about one of the gifts Mr. Squee is currently enjoying. As you know, Mr. Squee is a cat, so he happens to enjoy a bit of CATNIP now and then. Here he is, resting against his scratching post, after an energetic session of eating and sniffing and rolling around in his latest acquisition of catnip. He’s so funny to watch when he’s “getting nipped.” It doesn’t last long though, and too soon he is back to his prim and proper self, and back at work, keeping all of us here in Whimsieville safe from dogs and wolves. Mr. Squee works so hard and so diligently at his job, that he certainly deserves these brief moments of relaxation.
And speaking of relaxation, I think I’m getting ready to go back and join Tessie and Trixie under the night-light to read all about parrots and macaws and the salmon-crested cockatoo! He’s a jaunty looking fellow, wouldn’t you say?
