WORKIN’ THE PINK RIBBON!

A couple of days ago, Miss Chrissy pulled out the Christmas Decorations (more on that in a future post!), and among all the beads and baubles, lights and wreaths, we found this most unusual item: a dark pink ribbon. I say it’s unusual, because pink is not a traditional color for Christmas….so how did it get in the box ribbon1with all that Christmas Stuff? We discussed this peculiarity at length, and the best we could come up with is that at some point in Miss Chrissy’s past, this ribbon must have adorned a Christmas gift. Miss Chrissy is pretty creative about re-using and re-purposing items, so she figures that surely she meant to use it again on another Christmas package.

But…wait! Not so fast, my friends! When we Whimsies saw this ribbon, we were all so delighted by its beauty and soft texture, and by the fact that it is the perfect length for Whimsie use, that in the spirit of re-using and re-purposing, we asked Miss Chrissy if we might have this ribbon, and she was more than happy to give it to us.

Having a keen interest in fashion, we each took turns with the ribbon, and here are some of the looks we came up with.

USEMADONNAI worked with the ribbon first, realizing that it is of course an extremely pretty hair accessory. I often like to wear a headband to hold my long hair out of my face, and what could possibly be prettier than a huge pink ribbon tied at the top of my head? With this look, I sort of remind myself of Madonna, back in the 1980’s, when she first started becoming popular. The 1980’s were a time with a very particular fashion vibe, and I think I capture that vibe somewhat with my huge pink hair ribbon accessory.

ribbon2Next, Tessie has a go at it. She took the ribbon and still used it in her hair, but she reached back even further in fashion history by wrapping and twisting the ribbon around her head to create a sort of “modified turban,” reminiscent of the headwear preferred by the most fashionable flappers of the 1920’s. Too bad we don’t have a flapper dress to go with this turban! But Tess thought this zebra striped dress looked fun, and complimented the pink ribbon very well. CLARABOW

Finally, here’s Trixie, and like the true individual she is, she didn’t think of putting that ribbon anywhere near her head (“Don’t want to mess up my braids,” she said), so she jauntily tied it around her waist, as the most creative belt any of us have ever seen! Notice how Trixie’s ribbon belt takes her ordinary blue and white outfit and makes it look quite extraordinary! Very festive! She could go to a party in this outfit. Well…if she had some shoes, she could go to a party. It’s not really a good idea to wander too far outside of Whimsieville without shoes. One never knows what one might find in the world…ribbon3But anyway, we all agree that Trixie looks super-confident, posing in her fancy outfit with the pink ribbon belt.

120313111Well, that’s all we have for now. As I mentioned, next time we’ll delve a little deeper into the holiday spirit, and show you some of the fun decorations Miss Chrissy has brought forward for us all to enjoy over the next several weeks of the Christmas season. We Whimsies love holidays, and Christmas is absolutely the best of all the holidays, so we’re hoping to be able to celebrate it here with you—in style!!
