It’s the 4th of July, and you know what that means! Time to celebrate this great county we live in by bringing out the red, white and blue! Trixie, Tessie and I can’t actually eat any hot dogs or hamburgers, since we are Whimsies, and Whimsies don’t eat food (though I must admit…I’m awfully curious about watermelon, it’s so pretty and cold…) so we won’t be celebrating in that way. However, we are quite happy to don the appropriate colors for this fantastic Summer holiday!
Let’s proceed from left to right, so you get the full effect of the red, white and blue. Trxie starts us off with a simple yet darling ensemble of a patriotically red tee shirt, and a pair of that old American favorite: blue jeans! But Trixie takes her outfit one step further by topping it with the most adorable floppy hat in blue and white checkers. Just the thing to keep the sun off your face on these long, hot Summer days!
Now, me! I’m also wearing the traditional favorite of a plain tee shirt, but mine is white. One can never have too many white tee shirts, they come in so handy for every kind of outfit. Likewise, one can never have too many pairs of blue jeans, and that’s what I’m wearing as well. You might say a white tee shirt and blue jeans is a rather drab combination, but wait…I’m not done yet! Check out my hair accessory! I’ve tied a red and white bandana just behind my ears, like a headband! The bandana motif hearkens back to the days of the Old West….what could be more American? And it’s a splash of color that highlights the red in my cheeks, don’t you think?
And now Tessie! She chose to go a little less traditional for her Americana fashion statement by wearing a dress. Well….it’s sort of a dress, though there’s a big opening in the front, which means, of course, she needs to wear something fashionable and fun underneath. No problem! Tessie compliments her dress (denim again, thank you very much, just like our blue jeans) with a pair of comfy red stretch pants. Oh, and Tessie takes her non-traditional approach one step further by tying her hair back with…get this…red and white striped shoelaces! Well! Would you ever imagine it?
But come to think of it, isn’t that what the American spirit is all about? A bit of the traditional (tee shirts, blue jeans and bandanas) expertly paired with a bit of the innovative—shoelaces in the hair! I think altogether we three are a perfect representation of what it means to be an American on this Fourth of July!
Oh, and one more thing. You’ll notice none of us are wearing shoes. That’s because it’s Summer, and in the Summertime, who wants to wear shoes? As soon as we got done with this photoshoot, we jumped up to run all around in the cool wet grass on this fine, delightful morning!
So, here we are, we are all dressed up. You know the old saying, “All dressed up and nowhere to go”? Well, I certainly hope not! We’re going to be bugging Miss Chrissy all day today to take us out to see some fireworks tonight! Fireworks are just about the best part of 4th of July— except, of course, for the whole concept of living in a free nation, where everyone has the means and the privilege of going out to see the fireworks, if they want to. And we want to!
As good as we look, and with the prospect of fantastic fireworks in our future, I’m feeling pretty good about the 4th of July!
