Last week when Miss Chrissy and The Man were sorting Comics, Trixie got all distracted and spent a lot of time spread out on the floor surrounded by comic books, reading. Now we all know what The Man liked when he was a Boy, but what did Miss Chrissy like when she was a Girl? Tessie knew Miss Chrissy when she was a Girl, and has a very distinct memory of Miss Chrissy being crazy about the Cowsills! We asked Miss Chrissy about it and she laughed and laughed and said yes that was absolutely true, and then she went to the bookcase and found a scrapbook she had made about the Cowsills, so many years ago.
Here I am showing a page from that scrapbook. I really enjoyed looking through it, because I have to admit, that years and years ago, when I lived with my Person Jennifer, SHE TOO was a big fan on the Cowsills. She had all kinds of Cowsill pictures all over her walls! I don’t know if she ever made a scrapbook like Miss Chrissy did, but looking through this scrapbook, it brought back a lot of memories for me, because I remember so many of these pictures from my time with Jennifer.
Jennifer’s favorite Cowsill was Barry, and I’m sorry to say that Miss Chrissy informed me that he has since died, and it was in a terrible way, drowing during a terrible Hurricane. Cowsill Bill has also died, which is also sad. But Miss Chrissy’s favorite Cowsill, Paul, (pictured here) is still alive, and lives in Montana or Oregon or some such place, and is a farmer. At least that’s what she read on The Internet.
I don’t know if I had a favorite Boy Cowsill, but I always remember being so envious of Susan, because she had such a large family, and I always imagined it would be nice to have so many brothers to look out for me. I also imagined it would be nice to be able to go on stage and sing. On The Internet, we have also learned that Susan is still making music even today, and brother John is actually in a singing group from the 1960’s that is still around today, The Beach Boys!
I don’t think The Beach Boys are as popular today as they once were, and the Cowsills don’t exist any more as a singing group, though we hear that sometimes some of them get together and will do shows. That might be fun to see, but it might also be sad, because they are all so much older now, not like we remember them.
I like looking in this scrapbook with Miss Chrissy, and remembering the Cowsills the way they were. And of course, we can still pull their music and listen to it, and it sounds exactly the same as it always did, and it’s still good.
