My Favorite Boyfriend

Trixie here! And I’m going to start off by telling you how annoyed I am with myself! I really wish I wasn’t so much of a big baby when it comes to dogs and wolves, because there are some movies I want to see, but my fears won’t let me see them.

I recently sat down with Miss Chrissy to watch a movie called Twilight, which is about a girl and a vampire who fall in love. Later on, it seems, there will be more movies about this girl and this vampire, but she will also have a friend who is a werewolf. And that’s where I draw the line! I mean, especially since, when I asked Miss Chrissy, she told me, “Well, the wolves are very big, Trixie. VERY big. And there’s a lot of fighting.” Brrrrr… I don’t want to see that! It would give me nightmares for weeks.

But I do want to see my vampire boy again, the beautiful Edward Cullen.

Oh yes, he IS beautiful! So beautiful that he sparkles in the sunshine. Of course, where they all live in Forks in Washington state, it’s so dreary and gloomy all the time, that he barely every sparkles, so he goes to high school, just like he was any other boy. But he’s not like any other boy. He’s a vampire, a “Cold One,” who is really dead, yet he’s alive, and he drinks blood, but only animal blood, not people blood, so you see, he’s a GOOD vampire.

He has a family, and they’re all vampires too, but some of them are just sort of weird looking. But not Edward. He’s beautiful. He has these eyebrows that are just great, and his skin is really pale, and his lips are really dark and expressive, and sometimes his eyes are gold. And he’s usually pretty quiet and soft-spoken. He doesn’t like to draw attention to himself.

Oh, but that’s not the best part! He’s super strong and super fast, and he can jump so far that it’s almost like flying. In a way, he’s like a superhero, like Thor, or Hulk, only he’s beautiful. Hulk, of course is NOT beautiful, and Thor is, but in a much different way.

Edward lives in this great house with his family of vampires, and he has this room full of music (which I know Tessie would love) but no bed, because he never sleeps. He also drives a great car, really fast. Though he could probably run faster than he drives, but then everyone would look at him, and that would draw attention to himself, and he doesn’t want that.

He doesn’t want to be in love with Bella but he can’t help himself, there’s something about her that he finds so irresistible. Partly it’s her blood, but it’s more than that. He can read everyone else’s minds, but he can’t read Bella’s mind, so she’s a mystery to him.

In this world, there’s no downside to being a vampire. Refer back to my long list of superpowers, and of course you live forever, usually, since it’s almost impossible to be killed, and since you never have to sleep, you could spend all your time reading books and comics, and listening to music. Unless you decide to spend all your time with the girl you love.

Edward is a great protector. When Bella gets into a dangerous situation, he magically appears and gets her out of trouble. How romantic! Sigh…you know, it would have been nice to have a protector like that years ago, when I was in a dangerous situation. Maybe that’s why I like Edward Cullen so much, because I feel like he could protect me, if he loved me.

Or maybe I just like him because he’s so beautiful.

Anyway, I guess I will just have to content myself with watching the Twilight movie again and again, because there’s no way I’m going to watch a movie with werewolves in it! Miss Chrissy tells me the werewolf boy, Jacob, is going to fall in love with Bella also, and he and Edward will fight for her. How romantic! Edward wins, of course, and eventually he and Bella will get married and have a baby. That’s what Miss Chrissy tells me, and I’m glad to hear it, because I sure would be upset to hear that Bella went off with a WOLF!! Especially when she has the beautiful, romantic Edward who is so devoted to her! That would just be a poor choice on her part.

Miss Chrissy says that if I were to watch the rest of the movies I might be able to understand why some people think Bella should choose Jacob the wolf rather than Edward the vampire. Well, in a way then, I’m glad I can’t watch any more of these movies! Because I don’t even want to consider the possibility that someone could fall in love with a wolf! No way!

So…I started off by saying I was annoyed with myself because I’m too afraid to watch any more of these movies. But you know what? I just talked myself out of it, I changed my mind. I don’t wanna know nothin’ ‘bout no stinkin’ wolves!! I’m quite happy, after all, with my beautiful vampire boy, and that’s the way I want it to stay.

Miss Chrissy and The Man have begun watching a new TV show, and we Whimsies are watching along with them, even though there are some moments when Tessie and Trixie will cover their eyes, because it’s too scary for them. We’re all watching Sleepy Hollow, and I must admit, the Headless Horseman is a fright. And I also don’t like some of the supernatural villains. But yet somehow I can’t stop watching.

And why? Well, that can be easily explained by the title of this entry. I have a new boyfriend! I absolutely love, love, love Ichabod Crane! Yes, Ichabod is a terrible name, and gratefully nobody calls him that, they all call him Crane, which is just fine by me. And in a way, he reminds me of a crane because he’s so tall and skinny! In the original story of Sleepy Hollow, which Jennifer read to me when she was in junior high, Ichabod Crane was also sort of goofy. I also remember seeing him in some Disney cartoon or something like that, and he was just…ugly!! But there’s nothing goofy or ugly about this Ichabod Crane!

He’s played by an actor named Tom Mison, who I know nothing about, and I don’t need to know anything about. He’s tall and skinny, as I mentioned, and he has the most lovely British accent. Now, usually Tessie is the one who goes nuts for accents, and while she tells me she loves his voice, she keeps her eyes covered most of the time, so I don’t know that she has really had a good look at Mr. Crane.

Right now, he’s walking around in his late 18th century clothing, which looks so cool, and he has a beard and this long straggly hair that makes him look very disheveled, but that is actually the PERFECT look for him! I mean, he’s traveled through time and is being pursued by demons—who wouldn’t be disheveled?

This Ichabod Crane is a Professor, which might have something to do with why I like him so much. He’s very smart. In the last episode we saw, he was speaking in Middle English! Can you do that?? No! So that was really cool. Even Jennifer’s father, who was a Professor, could not speak in Middle English.

I also like that Crane has this very strange but interesting relationship with Abby, the policewoman (or “LEF-tenant,” as he calls her with his British accent.) It’s like they tried to find the two people who are most unalike and put them together. He’s a tall white Englishman from the 18th century, and she’s a short black woman from the current day. But in this case, opposites attract (as they say)—though not romantically, and that’s just fine by me, because Crane is still so in love with his wife who was a witch, and she’s trying to help him stop the Apocalypse, even though she’s stuck in Purgatory, guarded by the demon Malloch.

A rich storyline, no? I would keep watching this show just for the storyline, but how much better to have a tall, intelligent, soft-spoken Englishman to feast your eyes on at the same time! I hope they don’t clean him up too much, don’t make him shave his beard or cut his ponytail. And I hope he keeps saying things like “As you know, I am insane and therefore impervious to simple commands” and “When did it become acceptable for ladies to wear trousers?”

Sigh…I could just listen to him all day…

Hey, it’s me, Trixie again! Miss Chrissy and The Man went out last night, so we didn’t get to watch Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD yet. They said we could watch it on our own, but we wanted to wait for them, so we could all watch it together. We’ll be doing that later tonight, but before we get there, I have something else to say.

Well, as you all know, I am a big fan of Thor, but I don’t want you all to think he’s the only boy I like. Oh no! I like all kinds of boys, too many to mention. I wouldn’t know where to start, but then today, Tessie showed me this video that Miss Chrissy showed her by one her favorite singing groups called Placebo, and when I saw this for the first time I absolutely fell in love with the lead singer!

He’s the guy in this video, the one who’s going to jump off the building. His name is Brian Molko, and I think he is soOOOooo gorgeous! I mean, just look at him! He really is…gorgeous. He’s just…beautiful. There’s no other word for it. Can a guy be gorgeous and beautiful? Yes, he can.

I love his hair. And…those lips! Look at his lips!! I love his eyes, they are so expressive. And I even love his nailpolish.

Sometimes I wish us Whismies could wear nailpolish, but our hands are just too small. That’s okay, though. I like it when I see other people wearing nailpolish, and I don’t even mind if it’s a guy wearing nailpolish, as long as it’s black. I mean, if a guy was wearing pink nailpolish, that would just be weird.

But Brian Molko is not weird (okay, maybe he’s a little weird…) but mostly he’s just beautiful. Oh, and did I mention I also love his voice? And I love all the music Placebo does. Miss Chrissy listens to Placebo music sometimes in the morning, and it has intrigued me, so that’s why I asked Tessie what she knew about them, and that’s how we found this video. There are other videos by Placebo, but this is the one where Brian Molko looks the best.

I must admit I don’t really understand this video. He’s going to jump…or at least we THINK so. But then when he jumps, he falls for a bit…and then he walks down the side of the building. What is this saying? Is this his superpower? I mean above and beyond being absolutely gorgeous and making terrific music? Do you really need more superpowers than that?

Okay, okay, I admit it already. Tessie and Trixie called me out during our last Round Table Discussion about SHIELD. I think they were just kidding about me having a crush on Captain Picard, and I didn’t say anything at the time, because I was getting sleepy and wanted to go to bed, but now I’ll admit it. YES! I’m a Captain Picard girl! So there!

Well, I guess I should start by acknowledging that having a crush on an older gentleman like Captain Picard is indeed rather non-conventional…for a Whimsie. But then, I like to think of myself as a non-conventional Whimsie! My background is a lot different than that of Tillie and Trixie. I was never mistreated, I was never traumatized. For years and years I lived with my Person, a girl named Jennifer, in a lovely sprawling ranch home in Connecticut, and both her parents were College Professors, and in fact, she went on to become a College Professor herself. During my time with Jennifer, I was exposed to a lot of upper crust stuff, a lot of Literature and fancy Music, and my tastes developed from there.

One taste that developed was this: I like smart guys. And who is smarter than Captain Picard? Well, I guess there probably are lots of people who are smarter, but sometimes just being smart is not good enough. Sometimes you have to know what to DO with those smarts. And Captain Picard always knows what to do. He’s always confident and in charge. I find that very attractive.

While I was living with my Person Jennifer in Connecticut, we watched a lot of Star Trek together. At first, we watched the one with Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock. During those shows, I would sit on the bed with Jennifer and we would watch together. Those were good times.

Later, when Star Trek The Next Generation came on, the one with Captain Picard, Jennifer was too Old to sit with me anymore, which was sort of sad, but I did have a very good vantage point from a shelf that reached almost to the ceiling. I saw a lot of good Star Trek episodes from there, and was always impressed by how much better Captain Picard was than Captain Kirk.

To me, Kirk was sort of full of himself. He was always coming on to women, and it kinda struck me as…sleazy. But with Picard, it was always the women that were interested in him! And usually he had to turn them down, because of course he was “married” to the Enterprise. I like a man who takes his job seriously.

Also, from all I’ve seen of People, there are only a certain number that can look good with no hair, and Captain Picard is at the top of that list! Oh, and I also love his accent. And when he says, “Make it so.” It’s like, he doesn’t ask anyone HOW are you going to do it, or even CAN you do it, he just says, “Make it so.” He expects other people to know how to do their job, and do it the right way.

And I also like when he tugs on the bottom of his shirt. That’s so cute. LOL! You would never think about calling a refined gentleman like Captain Picard “cute,” but when he tugs on his shirt, well, you just have to admit: so cute!

I don’t necessarily know if I agree with everything in the Star Trek Universe. Some of it seems just too idealistic to me. But this appeals to me very much: everyone working together in peace and harmony, to discover new things, and make the world a better place. We get to see a few No-Good-Niks now and then in the Star Trek universe, but most of the time most of the people are all on the same page, working for the same goals. Everyone is so “self-actualized” (a term I learned from Jennifer’s parents) that they probably don’t even NEED leaders most of the time, they’ll just do the right thing because it IS the right thing.

That would be a perfect world, wouldn’t it? But for those times when leaders ARE needed, if you ask me, you can’t do better than Captain Jean Luc Picard!

Hi, everyone! This is Tessie again. A little while ago Trixie told you all about her crush on Thor, and I like Thor too, of course, but I wouldn’t say I have a CRUSH on him. I mean, he’s not even a real person, so how can you have a crush on him? Trixie’s funny like that. She lives in a fantasy world a lot of the time. It’s a nice place to visit, but I wouldn’t want to live there on a constant basis. Mostly, I like to come out into the real world and take a look around at some of the REAL boys that are available to have a crush on.

So that’s why I’m here now, to tell you all about a boy I think is super cute. Actually, he’s not so much of a boy anymore, since he was a teenager when he started making music for over ten years, and technically nobody gets to be a boy for THAT long…though he still IS a boy, because he’s part of the group… Fall Out Boy!

No, I am NOT talking about Pete Wenz. I know a lot of girls think he’s really cute, and in a way he is, but I don’t really like his attitude. If you ask me, most of the time he acts like he’s so FULL OF HIMSELF (if you know what I mean). Uck! That is not attractive at all!

No, instead, I like Patrick Stump, the lead singer of Fall Out Boy. He writes most of their music AND he’s a terrific singer, his voice is SO beautiful! I could just listen to his voice all day long.

I especially like him in some of the FOB (that’s short for “Fall Out Boy”) videos on You Tube. If you’ve never seen him singing, you should check him out in videos like this one, Sugar We’re Going Down (which actually has a really funny but meaningful story to it).

Go ahead and watch it! It’s really fun! Patrick is the lead singer, in the blue shirt, and the first time I saw this video I thought “Oh! He has so much energy!” It think that’s what I first liked about him, all that energy.

And then I liked him in this video for the FOB song, America’s Suitehearts,

Wow! What a crazy feast of colors and wild and weird images! Patrick is the one in yellow. He looks good, but I do have to admit, Pete’s costume in this one, with the teeth and the collar, is exceptionally good. How do they come up with this stuff?

Anyway, getting back to Patrick…just take a look at all these pictures! He is so cute, isn’t he? (And I love that he always wears a hat!)

But here’s a funny thing about Patrick (at least it seems this way to me). Sometimes he looks really really cute, so cute I almost can’t stand it. But then there are other pictures of him where he doesn’t look good at all. You see, a long time ago he was really pudgy. A little pudge is cute, but too pudgy is just FAT, and that doesn’t look good on anyone. (I don’t want to show you any picture of him when he’s fat, because I only want you to see how cute he is.)

Then, when Fall Out Boy split up, he lost a lot of weight…I mean a LOT of weight, and he did some silly thing with his hair where it’s super-duper blonde, and sticking straight up, and you know what? He doesn’t even look like himself at all!

When you look at all his pictures, it’s sort of like he’s three different people. But wait! Let me take this one step further: he kind of reminds me of The Three Bears. You know the story: the porridge is too hot, the porridge is too cold….but then there’s porridge that is JUST RIGHT…Sometimes Patrick looks too fat, and sometimes he looks too skinny…but sometimes, he’s just in between…JUST RIGHT… and that’s the best. And he looks so cute.

And he’s a talented songwriter too. And a terrific singer. But I mentioned all that already, didn’t I?Miss Chrissy has all the Fallout Boy CD’s, including their new one from when the band just got back together, and there are some super great songs on those CD’s, and also some really cute pictures of all the guys in the band. This one here is my favorite picture of Patrick. It’s from their CD, Infinity on High. He looks so dreamy…don’t you think?

Sigh…

Well, anyway, like I said, he’s not really a boy anymore, I think he’s almost THIRTY and that’s ANCIENT!!! Back in the 1960’s (where us Whimsies are from) there was a saying “Never trust anyone over thirty.” Well, I beg to differ. There are many people over thirty who are totally worth trusting. (Don’t believe everything that came out of the ‘60’s!) And I will always trust Patrick Stump with my heart, because he is so talented, and so cute.
