Last time, Tillie mentioned that a plain white tee shirt is a classic, and Trixie and I agreed with her so much, that we all put on white tee shirts. And while we felt very “classic” in our tees, we still felt our outfits were lacking.
So what does one do when one’s outfit is lacking? Why…put on a hat, of course!
And it’s Summertime, which is the perfect time for hats! The sun is so strong in the Summer, it’s always good to wear a hat to protect one’s delicate complexion. We Whimsies tend to freckle—and though we have nothing against freckles, for they can be extremely cute, on someone like…say…Alfalfa, from The Little Rascals—on us, just a few freckles is the best amount. We don’t want any more.
So anyway, here we are, in some of our many Summer hats, showing you what a wonderful fashion statement a hat can be when paired with a plain white tee. First, let’s take a look at me! My outfit is so very simple, with just two colors going on, red and white. The white of my simple little ruffle-rimmed hat so precisely matches the white of my tee shirt, there’s no distraction in the overall fashion appeal. You know the saying, “Keep it simple, stupid”? Well, that’s what I’m going for here. I feel classic, and relaxed (and not at all stupid!), in my simple outfit of crisp red and white.
But what about Trixie? She also sports only two colors, but has chosen a pale lilac to complement her white tee. Lilac, of course, is a close relative to Trixie’s beloved pink, and as you can see here, Trixie looks just as lovely in lilac as she does in pink! Her hat, ruffle-rimmed like mine, boasts a delicate gingham of violet and white. Oh, what could be more Summery than gingham! Trixie has chosen well in attempting to capture the spirit of Summertime.
But perhaps Tillie has chosen even better than both of us, for her hat, in a blue, green and white plaid, is of the “bucket” style preferred by fishermen and other sportsmen. This style of hat absolutely screams *Summertime!” If Tillie were a fisherman, she would have hooks and lures protruding from the rim of her comfortable headpiece. Thank goodness she’s not a fisherman, because I would feel very uneasy about sitting next to all those smelly, fishy hooks and lures! No, it’s much better that Tillie has decided to let her pretty long hair hang down from her Summer hat and on to her shoulders of her simple white tee, her total look unadorned by nothing more than her big smile and a few whimsical freckles!
In our Summer hats, we Whimsies are looking and feeling so good and relaxed, we don’t feel like doing much of anything right now. No fishing, no sports for us, thank you very much! After the sun goes down, we might run around in the green grass and try to catch fireflies, but that’s about it. And’ if you ask me, that’s more than enough, for a hot and lazy Summer day.

It’s the 4th of July, and you know what that means! Time to celebrate this great county we live in by bringing out the red, white and blue! Trixie, Tessie and I can’t actually eat any hot dogs or hamburgers, since we are Whimsies, and Whimsies don’t eat food (though I must admit…I’m awfully curious about watermelon, it’s so pretty and cold…) so we won’t be celebrating in that way. However, we are quite happy to don the appropriate colors for this fantastic Summer holiday!
Let’s proceed from left to right, so you get the full effect of the red, white and blue. Trxie starts us off with a simple yet darling ensemble of a patriotically red tee shirt, and a pair of that old American favorite: blue jeans! But Trixie takes her outfit one step further by topping it with the most adorable floppy hat in blue and white checkers. Just the thing to keep the sun off your face on these long, hot Summer days!
Now, me! I’m also wearing the traditional favorite of a plain tee shirt, but mine is white. One can never have too many white tee shirts, they come in so handy for every kind of outfit. Likewise, one can never have too many pairs of blue jeans, and that’s what I’m wearing as well. You might say a white tee shirt and blue jeans is a rather drab combination, but wait…I’m not done yet! Check out my hair accessory! I’ve tied a red and white bandana just behind my ears, like a headband! The bandana motif hearkens back to the days of the Old West….what could be more American? And it’s a splash of color that highlights the red in my cheeks, don’t you think?
And now Tessie! She chose to go a little less traditional for her Americana fashion statement by wearing a dress. Well….it’s sort of a dress, though there’s a big opening in the front, which means, of course, she needs to wear something fashionable and fun underneath. No problem! Tessie compliments her dress (denim again, thank you very much, just like our blue jeans) with a pair of comfy red stretch pants. Oh, and Tessie takes her non-traditional approach one step further by tying her hair back with…get this…red and white striped shoelaces! Well! Would you ever imagine it?
Oh, and one more thing. You’ll notice none of us are wearing shoes. That’s because it’s Summer, and in the Summertime, who wants to wear shoes? As soon as we got done with this photoshoot, we jumped up to run all around in the cool wet grass on this fine, delightful morning!
Yesterday Miss Chrissy went to the Thrift Store Boutique and found this cute little Winter outfit for us, even though right now we are only a few days past the official start of Summer. As Miss Chrissy says…That’s the thing about the Boutique—you never know what you’re going to get! Each visit is full of surprise and mystery!
So first of all in the plus column: the fake shoes don’t cost anything extra. And since they’re attached to the tights, you can’t lose them. But what’s even better: they are so extremely comfortable! In fact, they are just as comfortable as…the white tights! So this is for when you want to appear to be all dressed up, but don’t want to go through all the trouble of actually having to tie or buckle up shoes. You could sit on the couch with these “shoes,” and nobody will be telling you to put your feet down.

Next, take a look at my pretty pink jacket. Yes, I know, in Summer it’s usually too hot to be needing a jacket, but what about those cool Summer nights, like tonight, when there’s a thunderstorm going on? I need the hat to protect me from the rain, and the jacket to protect me from the wind. And if all that protection happens to be in fashion-forward colors…then so much the better!
