When Miss Chrissy made her last visit to the Thrift Shop Boutique, the only thing she could find for us was these adorable Summer hats. When she returned from her outing, she told us she thinks the reason it’s becoming more difficult to find us new fashions these days is because we already have just about everything a Whimsie could require or desire in a wardrobe! And yes, it’s true, we do have quite an extensive wardrobe! But if there’s one thing us Whimsies believe with all our hearts, it’s that you can never have too many hats.
Case in point: here’s a quick look at our three new Summer hats. Of course we had a lot of fun rummaging through our extensive wardrobe to find just the right outfits to show off our new hats in their best light. So, this is what we’ve come up with.

I’ll let Tessie go first, since she has the biggest hat of us all. You’ll notice this beauty of a bucket hat is denim on the outside, and gingham check on the inside. How classic! On both sides! A while back we did a Study in Denim, and this hat would have been perfect for that occasion. We didn’thave it then, but we do have it now, and Tessie has chosen to pair this pretty hat with a summery dress you may have seen before, a little white dress with tiny red polka dots. But the dots are only a backdrop for the main feature, which is a jaunty little ladybug coming out of a flower on the far right. How whimsical is that?
The dress screams Summer, and so does the hat. And Tessie has added her own touch to the outfit with a pair of red leggings. This adds visual interest, but more importantly, Tessie reports this dress feels just too short to be worn with nothing underneath. If a rare Summer breezes should come her way, it might lift the dress and cause poor Tessie great embarrassment. And we Whimsies are nothing if not modest. So Tessie has wisely chosen to do what makes her most comfortable. And if it happens to look great as well…so much the better!
Now, as for me, you’ll notice my skirt is also short, but that’s okay, because this little skirt boasts its own built-in bloomers! So Summer breezes may blow away, I don’t care! You may remember seeing this skirt once before as well, but here I have chosen it because it so perfectly matches the colors in my darling little stretch cap. What a brilliant combination of pink and green, so bright and festive, and totally Summer!
The stretchiness of the cap means I can be certain this hat will not fall off as I go gallivanting around in the grass, catching fireflies. Also, it keeps my sometimes unruly braids under control.
A pink striped top picks up the stripes in the cap, so all the themes are being repeated. Yeah, I know there’s a lot going on in this outfit, but if you ask me, it’s a lot of fun! And oh so functional, with the built-in bloomers and softness of the well-fitting cap. A Whimsie could live in an outfit like this! Well, at least until the Summer is over, and warmer clothes will once again be needed.

And now finally, let’s take a look at Tillie. As busy as my outfit, that’s how busy Tillie’s outfit is not. You see, Tillie’s hat is pure white. In honor of the whiteness of her hat, Tillie has chosen a pure white tee shirt, and then in honor of Summer, she pairs these with simple pink shorts. It’s all so classic, who could possibly argue with her choices! If you take a good look at Tillie’s
new hat, you’ll notice that one side is a delicate cotton eyelet pattern, but the other is completely terrycloth! What an interesting combination! Eyelet is so feminine, and terrycloth is all about the beach. Not being a big fan of the water, I’m perfectly fine with there being no beaches within hundreds of miles of Whimsieville, but for Tillie’s sake, I almost wish there was. Of course we don’t have any bathing suits in our wardrobe, so that is why Tillie chose the simple shirt and shorts for her terrycloth hat. As she explained to me, that was the closest she felt she could come to a beach-type outfit to compliment her terrycloth hat.
So! As I began telling you about our new hats, I mentioned how very extensive our wardrobe is, and yet I end up by noting that we have no beachwear! Hmmm…Maybe our wardrobe is not as extensive as we think it is….Well, it’s okay with me if we don’t have any bathing suits, but this revelation makes me wonder what else might actually be lacking in our wardrobe that we’re not currently thinking about. We’re all aware we will be in desperate need of more shoes once the cooler weather kicks in, but for right now, who can possibly think about shoes?? It’s Summer, we’re Whimsies, and we’re all about the Summer fun.
And Summer fun is that much more fun, when you’ve got just the right hat!

So what does one do when one’s outfit is lacking? Why…put on a hat, of course!
So anyway, here we are, in some of our many Summer hats, showing you what a wonderful fashion statement a hat can be when paired with a plain white tee. First, let’s take a look at me! My outfit is so very simple, with just two colors going on, red and white. The white of my simple little ruffle-rimmed hat so precisely matches the white of my tee shirt, there’s no distraction in the overall fashion appeal. You know the saying, “Keep it simple, stupid”? Well, that’s what I’m going for here. I feel classic, and relaxed (and not at all stupid!), in my simple outfit of crisp red and white.
But what about Trixie? She also sports only two colors, but has chosen a pale lilac to complement her white tee. Lilac, of course, is a close relative to Trixie’s beloved pink, and as you can see here, Trixie looks just as lovely in lilac as she does in pink! Her hat, ruffle-rimmed like mine, boasts a delicate gingham of violet and white. Oh, what could be more Summery than gingham! Trixie has chosen well in attempting to capture the spirit of Summertime.
But perhaps Tillie has chosen even better than both of us, for her hat, in a blue, green and white plaid, is of the “bucket” style preferred by fishermen and other sportsmen. This style of hat absolutely screams *Summertime!” If Tillie were a fisherman, she would have hooks and lures protruding from the rim of her comfortable headpiece. Thank goodness she’s not a fisherman, because I would feel very uneasy about sitting next to all those smelly, fishy hooks and lures! No, it’s much better that Tillie has decided to let her pretty long hair hang down from her Summer hat and on to her shoulders of her simple white tee, her total look unadorned by nothing more than her big smile and a few whimsical freckles!
