MARVEL’S AGENTS OF SHIELD ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION #17: SPEECHLESS

After last night’s episode of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, aptly titled “Turn, Turn, Turn,” the Whimsies were left speechless. The Man and I had seen Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier this past weekend, so I was able to prepare them for some of the events in last night’s SHIELD episode, but truthfully, none of us were truly prepared for everything that happened.

During the show, the Whimsies started by hollering “Ah Ha!” at key moments, and “I knew it!” when Agent May confessed how Nick Fury had assigned her to keep an eye on Coulson. Later, the Whimsies cheered (and blushed) when Skye kissed Ward, then welled up and cried along with Simmons, and then Fitz. But in the end, they were speechless. Not a word did they utter until I tucked them into bed with their tiny, sad and bewildered “Good nights.”

Worried, I checked on them before I went to bed. They were tossing fitfully, and I’m quite sure I heard them talking in their sleep. Among the soft mutters I heard: “Trust no one…” and “Whedon…must be stopped…”

Hopefully in a day or two the Whimsies will feel recovered enough to talk about this very startling and emotional episode of SHIELD. They are so sensitive, I sometimes wonder if it’s wise to let them watch such a violent and heartless entertainment. But at this point, they are so invested in the characters, I think it would be nearly impossible to stop them, unless they chose that path for themselves.
